Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), a typical type of persistent organic pollutants (POPs), were previously widely employed as insulating and heat exchange fluids in transformers and capacitors. Despite knowledge of its adverse effects, the precise mechanism underlying PCB77 toxicity remains enigmatic. In this study, we utilized zebrafish as a model organism to explore the toxic effects of various concentrations of PCB77 (10, 200, and 1000 μg/L) and its molecular toxicity mechanisms.

Initially discovered for its role mediating the deleterious effects of environmental contaminants, the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) is now known to be a crucial regulator of the immune system. The expanding list of AHR ligands includes synthetic and naturally derived molecules spanning pollutants, phytochemicals, pharmaceuticals, and substances derived from amino acids and microorganisms. The consequences of engaging AHR vary, depending on factors such as the AHR ligand, cell type, immune challenge, developmental state, dose, and timing of exposure relative to the immune stimulus.

Mitochondrial metabolism requires the chaperoned import of disulfide-stabilized proteins via CHCHD4/MIA40 and its enigmatic interaction with oxidoreductase Apoptosis-inducing factor (AIF). By crystallizing human CHCHD4's AIF-interaction domain with an activated AIF dimer, we uncover how NADH allosterically configures AIF to anchor CHCHD4's β-hairpin and histidine-helix motifs to the inner mitochondrial membrane. The structure further reveals a similarity between the AIF-interaction domain and recognition sequences of CHCHD4 substrates.

A fundamental issue in neuroscience is a lack of understanding regarding the relationship between brain function and the white matter architecture that supports it. Individuals with chronic neuropathic pain (NP) exhibit functional abnormalities throughout brain networks collectively termed the "dynamic pain connectome" (DPC), including the default mode network (DMN), salience network, and ascending nociceptive and descending pain modulation systems. These functional abnormalities are often observed in a sex-dependent fashion.

A Zenker's diverticulum (ZD) is an acquired hernia of the mucosa and submucosa at the pharyngoesophageal junction dorsally through Killian's triangle, considered a zone of weakness. The authors report their experience in the management of a case of a ZD with oral externalization following coughing. Surgery made by a multidisciplinary team consisted first of resection of the edematous exteriorized portion of the diverticulum.
