Parameters for coagulation, fibrinogenolysis and fibrinolysis were measured in order to understand the formation of fluid or clotted cadaver plasma. All values found were distinctly elevated without significant differences between fluid and clotted material. The electrophoretic banding pattern of the fibrinogen and fibrin material also proved extensive coagulation and fibrinolysis in all cases. In vitro experiments in which similar electrophoretic banding patterns were obtained suggested that the development of fluid cadaver plasma depends on the activation of fibrinolysis prior to complete coagulation, and is enhanced by persistence of circulation as well as a physiological pH (7.4). In correspondence to post mortal time only an increase in elastase values was found.

Blood coagulation is a highly regulated injury response that features polymerization of fibrin fibers to prevent the passage of blood from a damaged vascular endothelium. A growing body of research seeks to monitor coagulation in microfluidic systems but fails to capture coagulation as a response to disruption of the vascular endothelium. Here we present a device that allows compression injury of a defined segment of a microfluidic vascular endothelium and the assessment of coagulation at the injury site.

Background: This case report describes a rare case of Coats disease in adult female patient with preserved vision after intravitreal Aflibercept injection and laser photocoagulation.
Case Presentation: A female patient of Asian Palestinian descent, aged 20, exhibited a progressive and painless deterioration in the vision of her left eye over a period of two weeks. She exhibited no additional ocular symptoms.

Previous studies have suggested combined therapy of heparin and therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) with fresh frozen plasma (FFP) as the replacement fluid is beneficial in some cases of acute flare-up of autoimmune diseases complicated by thrombotic events. Nevertheless, it remains unknown whether clinicians do more harm than good by exposing patients to a "thrombotic storm" through simultaneous administration of heparin and the clotting factors in the FFP during TPE.
