Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is characterized by deficits in communication, social interaction, and repetitive and stereotyped behaviors, with no specific drug therapy available. Studies have found that cannabidiol (CBD) can improve hyperactive and cognitive symptoms in children with ASD. However, little is known about the effect of CBD in combination with other medications, such as risperidone (RISP).

The current study examined the antipsychotic properties of ethanolic extracts of Crinum asiaticum (EECA) and Crinum defixum (EECD). The effects of the extracts on rodents' ketamine-induced hyperactivity, amphetamine-induced stereotypy, forced swim test, conditioned avoidance response, and catalepsy were assessed. According to the findings, EECA and EECD both significantly outperformed typical antipsychotic medications in antipsychotic-like behaviours across a variety of behavioural paradigms.

The 5-lipoxygenase/leukotriene system has been implicated in both physiological and pathological states within the central nervous system. Understanding how this system interacts with the dopaminergic system could provide valuable insights into dopamine-related pathologies. This study focused on examining both motor and non-motor dopamine-related responses in 5-lipoxygenase/leukotriene-deficient mice.

Background: Neurochemical dysregulations resulting from N-methyl-D-aspartate hypofunction (NMDA), are exacerbated by neuroimmune and oxidative stress and are known risk factors for neuropsychiatric disorders like schizophrenia-like diseases. Here, we investigate the protective and curative effects, and mechanisms of silymarin, a polyphenolic flavonoid with neuroprotective functions in preventive-reversal model of ketamine, an NMDA antagonist in mice.
Methods: Mice were grouped into 6 cohorts (n = 9).
