Nomogram for Predicting Suboptimal Weight Loss at Three Years after Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Surgery in Chinese Patients with Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes.

Obes Facts

January 2025

Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai Diabetes Institute, Shanghai Clinical Center of Diabetes, Shanghai Key Laboratory of Diabetes Mellitus, Shanghai Key Clinical Center for Metabolic Disease, Shanghai, China.

Introduction: Strategies to address suboptimal weight loss after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) can be developed if at-risk patients are identified in advance. This study aimed to build a pre-surgery prediction nomogram for early prediction of insufficient weight loss (IWL) or weight regain (WR) after bariatric surgery in Chinese patients.

Methods: In this retrospective study, 187 patients with obesity and type 2 diabetes who underwent laparoscopic RYGB were followed yearly for 3 years.

Description of steady-state creep rate with continuously varying stress sensitivity parameter and upper limits of applied stress.

Heliyon

January 2025

Dept. of Mathematics and Physics, Military Technology Faculty, University of Defence, Kounicova 65, CZ-662 10, Brno, Czech Republic.

The steady-state creep rate increases with working temperature according to the Arrhenius law and with applied stress according to the power law. The dependence on both the variables is usually expressed as the product of the Arrhenius law and the power law, where a constant value of the apparent activation energy is assumed. As the exponent of the power law, called the stress sensitivity parameter and dependent on the deformation micromechanism, a specific integer is taken.

Integrating lines of research on children's curiosity-driven learning.

J Exp Child Psychol

January 2025

Developmental Psychology, University of Amsterdam, 1001 NK Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Epistemic curiosity is considered indispensable in children's learning, but previous empirical research on children's curiosity-driven learning has been fragmented; separate research lines tend to focus on single learning outcomes. Therefore, this study aimed at integrating different research lines by adapting an existing paradigm to investigate not only the relation between children's state curiosity and their memory performance but also their desire to explore. In addition, this study examined a possible mechanism through which curiosity affects recall: increased attentional processes.

Background: It is common for consumers to purchase ultra-processed foods that are perceived to have health risks, and this phenomenon is rarely explained in the existing literature from the perspective of consumers' responses to the intuitive marketing of flavor labels and the packaging.

Methods: This study aimed to fill this knowledge gap and investigated the attention of 920 participants aged 18~59 across China toward fat and sodium content information for six ultra-processed foods (pastry foods, quick-frozen foods, dessert foods, puffed foods, beverages, and sauces) presented in nutrition facts tables based on the theoretical analysis framework for purchasing decisions on ultra-processed foods by using the binary logit model.

Results: It was found that the respondent' s attention to fat and sodium content information was positively influenced by health risk perception levels and levels of knowledge about fat and sodium but negatively influenced by the interaction term between flavor labels (or the packaging) that stimulated the purchase desire and health risk perception levels (or levels of knowledge about fat and sodium).

Assessment of Surface Integrity in Precision Electrical Discharge Machining of HSS EN HS6-5-2C.

Micromachines (Basel)

December 2024

Department of Process Engineering, Faculty of Manufacturing Technologies with the Seat in Presov, Technical University of Kosice, Sturova 31, 080 01 Presov, Slovakia.

The integrity of the machined surface in precision wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) of electrically conductive materials is one of the most important quality indicators. The integrity parameters of the machined surface are primarily monitored in terms of micro and macro geometry parameters. This paper presents the results obtained as a part of experimental research aimed at evaluating surface crack density (SCD) when machining EN HS6-5-2C using WEDM technology.
