Laboratory experiments sensitive to the equation of state of neutron rich matter in the vicinity of nuclear saturation density provide the first rung in a "density ladder" that connects terrestrial experiments to astronomical observations. In this context, the neutron skin thickness of ^{208}Pb (R_{skin}^{208}) provides a stringent laboratory constraint on the density dependence of the symmetry energy. In turn, an improved value of R_{skin}^{208} has been reported recently by the PREX collaboration. Exploiting the strong correlation between R_{skin}^{208} and the slope of the symmetry energy L within a specific class of relativistic energy density functionals, we report a value of L=(106±37) MeV-which systematically overestimates current limits based on both theoretical approaches and experimental measurements. The impact of such a stiff symmetry energy on some critical neutron-star observables is also examined.

In inertial confinement fusion experiments, hot spot mix caused by hydrodynamic instabilities is a critical performance limitation. Currently, multi-channel Ross filter pair imaging is used to quantitatively diagnose the mix mass of cryogenic hot spots driven by 100 kJ energy, but this method brings significant uncertainty. To measure the level of mix more accurately, we have developed a two-temperature model to modify the fitted bremsstrahlung spectra based on the characteristics of cryogenic implosion hot spots.

Non-Hermitian quantum field theories are a promising tool to study open quantum systems. These theories preserve unitarity if PT symmetry is respected, and in that case, an equivalent Hermitian description exists via the so-called Dyson map. Generically, PT-symmetric non-Hermitian theories can also feature phases where PT symmetry is broken and unitarity is lost.

The Cr and Sm doped GdAlO perovskite with formula GdSmAlCrO, was synthesized a solid-state reaction method, and its structure, morphology, and photoluminescence properties were thoroughly investigated. The compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group, with Cr transition-metal ions substituting Al in the octahedral symmetry site, and Sm lanthanide (rare-earth) ions occupying the tetrahedral site. The material's morphology and chemical composition homogeneity were evaluated through Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray analysis.

The compression behavior of iron oxyhydroxide ε-FeOOH is complex, with variations in its magnetic property and bonding character. In this study, in situ powder neutron diffraction experiments were conducted on ε-FeOOH and ε-FeOOD up to pressures exceeding 20 GPa to investigate a spin-reorientation (spin-flop) transition, hydrogen-bond (H-bond) symmetrization, and their correlation. The magnetic transition was observed at 8 GPa in both ε-FeOOH and ε-FeOOD.

The performance of energetic coordination compounds (ECCs) is influenced by their components and structure. Modifying the chemical structure of the ligands can balance the detonation performance and sensitivity. This study introduced Cu(3-PZCA)(ClO) () and Cu(2-IZCA)(ClO) (), using 3-PZCA and 2-IZCA as ligands.
