This study compared the measurements of total cholesterol levels by means of a Reflotron dry-chemistry system and a standard laboratory method with the Hitachi 705 analyser. Simultaneous blood samples were collected by finger-prick and by venepuncture from 80 volunteers. The ranges of total cholesterol levels were 3.38-8.45 mmol/L (Reflotron) and 3.59-8.83 mmol/L (Hitachi). The mean (+/- standard deviation [SD]) difference between the two methods was 0.22 +/- 0.30 mmol/L. All the subjects provided a second finger-prick sample of blood on the next day to assess the reproducibility of the Reflotron system. The mean (+/- SD) cholesterol levels that were obtained by the Reflotron method on Day 1 and Day 2 were 5.38 +/- 1.17 mmol/L and 5.30 +/- 1.14 mmol/L, respectively. These results did not differ significantly (mean difference, 0.079 mmol/L; standard error, 0.045 mmol/L). Provided that the operator is trained appropriately, the Reflotron system gives rapid, accurate and reproducible results.

This study aims to determine and compare the reference values of the haematological and biochemical blood parameters of two fish species collected from the Gökova Bay (Muğla, South-Western of Türkiye): the non-native and invasive Randall's threadfin bream, and the native Common pandora, . Both species inhabit the same environment and compete for resources. Blood samples were collected from a total of 100 fish samples (50 and 50 ) which were caught from a depth of 30 to 60 meters between February 2023 and July 2024.

Background And Aim: Zhilong Huoxue Tongyu Capsule (ZL capsule) has been demonstrated to be an effective and widely-used traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula for the treatment of various diseases, especially for atherosclerosis (AS) related cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Reversal of endothelial-mesenchymal transition (EndMT) plays a crucial role in the cure of AS. But the curative impact of ZL capsule on EndMT remains obscure during the development of AS.

Objective: This study investigates the protective effects of lactic acid, a metabolite of , on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) induced by a high-sugar, high-fat diet (HFD) in mice, in the context of the gut-liver axis.
Methods: A NAFLD mouse model was established using a HFD, and different intervention groups were set up to study the protective effects of and its metabolite lactic acid. The groups included a control group, NAFLD group, treatment group, Glyceraldehyde-3-P (G-3P) co-treatment group, and NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) overexpression group.

Objectives: To investigate the natural product sulforaphane (SFN) in protection of membranous nephropathy (MN) by inhibiting oxidative stress-associated podocyte pyroptosis.
Materials And Methods: A passive Heymann nephritis (PHN) model was established and treated with SFN. Clinical manifestations were examined by testing 24-hr urine protein, albumin, total cholesterol, triglyceride, high-density and low-density lipoprotein levels.

The therapeutic value of lipid-lowering drugs in pulmonary vascular disease remains uncertain due to insufficient studies and evidence. This study aims to investigate the causal effects of lipid-lowering drugs (specifically, inhibitors of APOB, CETP, HMGCR, NPC1L1, and PCSK9) on pulmonary vascular diseases using a Mendelian randomization (MR) approach. We utilized summary-level statistics from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) to simulate the exposure to low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and its outcomes on pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), pulmonary embolism (PE), and pulmonary heart disease (PHD).
