Ionic liquids (ILs) exhibit cytotoxic effects on prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. In this study, the antibacterial and antiproliferative activities of tetrahexylammonium bromide-based ILs were investigated. In order to evaluate the therapeutic potential of these ionic liquids, firstly microbiological assay using both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria were conducted by employing Disk-Diffusion and 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chlorine (TTC) methods to assess the antimicrobial effects. Likewise, the antitumor effects on 2D and 3D cell culture systems were assessed using the human colon cancer Caco-2 cell line and cytotoxic activity was assessed using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) and Alamar blue assays. Results obtained showed that [CH(CH)]N(Br) possesses an antibacterial potential, particularly in the case of two bacteria, (Gram) and (Gram) Preliminary screening of antiproliferative activity showed moderate activity, except for the concentration of 10 mM. Furthermore, regarding the effect of [CH(CH)]N(Br) on tumor cell aggregation, positive outcomes were noted. [CH(CH)]N(Br) presents promising and under-explored potential to improve antibacterial or anticancer therapies.

Context: There has been growing interest in amino acid ionic liquids because of their low-cost synthesis and superior biodegradability and biocompatibility compared to traditional ionic liquids. In this study, we have investigated the structure and dynamics of three ionic liquids consisting of N-butyl N-methyl piperidinium [Pip] cation with amino acid (lysine [Lys], histidine [His], and arginine [Arg]) anions. The radial distribution functions, the spatial distribution functions, and the coordination numbers have been used to analyze the structure in the bulk phase.

Actuation is normally dramatically enhanced by introducing so much yarn fiber twist that the fiber becomes fully coiled. In contrast, we found that usefully high muscle strokes and contractile work capacities can be obtained for non-twisted MXene (TiCT) fibers comprising MXene nanosheets that are stacked in the fiber direction. The MXene fiber artificial muscles are called MFAMs.

Elucidating the charging mechanism plays an intrinsic and critical role in the development of high-performance supercapacitors; however, a deep understanding of how this mechanism varies under different charging rates remains challenging. In this study, we investigate the charging mechanism of conductive metal-organic framework (c-MOF) electrodes in ionic liquids, combining electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance and constant-potential molecular dynamics simulations. Both experimental and modeling results reveal a transition of the ion adsorption and desorption modes from anion dominance at low charging rates to ion-exchange governance at high charging rates, significantly reducing the contribution of anions to the capacitance.

It is necessary to overcome the relatively low conductivity of ionic liquids (ILs) caused by steric hindrance effects to improve their ability to passivate defects and inhibit ion migration to boost the photovoltaic performance of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Herein, we designed and prepared a kind of low-concentration 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate (BMIMBF) diluted with propylene carbonate (PC) via an ultrasonic technique (PC/IL). The decrease in the decomposition temperature related to the IL part and the increase in the sublimation temperature related to the PC part facilitated the use of PC/IL to effectively delay the crystallization process and passivate the defects in multiple ways to obtain high-quality perovskite films.

The recovery of palladium from aqueous solutions is important due to its critical role in various industrial applications and the growing demand for sustainable resource management. This study investigates the potential of hybrid materials composed of MgAl layered double hydroxides (LDHs), chitosan, and ionic liquids (methyl trialchil ammonium chloride) for the efficient adsorption of palladium ions from low-concentration aqueous solutions. Comprehensive characterization techniques, including X-ray diffraction (RX), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and thermogravimetric analysis (TG), were employed to elucidate the structural and compositional properties of the hybrid materials.
