Recent environmental changes due to land-use and climate change threaten biodiversity and the ecosystem services it provides. Understanding the true scope of these changes is complicated by the lack of historical baselines for many of the interactions underpinning ecosystem services, such as pollination, or disservices, such as disease spreading. To assess changes in such services, it is vital to find ways of comparing past and current interactions between species.

This study presents the results of archaeometallurgical investigation of iron objects from the Sanctuary of Apollo in ancient Didyma, dating to the Archaic period (7th to the early 5th centuries BCE). The analysed precision work tools and semi-formed objects exhibit distinct material characteristics that differentiate them from other iron-steel artefacts of both small and large formats (weapons, implements, and architectural fittings) so far investigated in the Aegean. They were made of medium, high, and ultra-high carbon steel.

Marine organisms serve as a rich source of bioactive natural compounds, including antimicrobial agents. Jellyfish, which are ancient marine invertebrates with hundreds of millions of years of evolutionary history, have been in continuous contact with a diverse array of pathogenic microorganisms from seawater, which may give rise to a distinctive innate immune system and related defensive molecules. However, it is difficult and inefficient to isolate active ingredients directly from jellyfish for enrichment, though few jellyfish-sourced antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) have been reported.

Our research investigates a collection of distinctive case studies identified as 'womb-tomb sacred structures,' scattered throughout the region colloquially referred to as the Holy Land. This geographical area, nestled between the Mediterranean Sea and the East Bank of the Jordan River, holds profound historical and religious significance, intersecting with the biblical Land of Israel and the broader region of Palestine. It is revered by followers of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

ROS-induced stress promotes enrichment and emergence of antibiotic resistance in conventional activated sludge processes.

Since the Great Oxidation Event 2.4 billion years ago, microorganisms have evolved sophisticated responses to oxidative stress. These ancient adaptations remain relevant in modern engineered systems, particularly in conventional activated sludge (CAS) processes, which serve as significant reservoirs of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs).
