As primary industrial raw material, the widespread usage of bisphenol A (BPA) has resulted in sustained release and accumulation in the environment. Besides its endocrine-disrupting character, BPA was reported to generate excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS). However, the potential toxic mechanisms of the BPA-induced oxidative damage to plants were poorly understood. In this study, glutathione peroxidase 6 from Arabidopsis thaliana (AtGPX6) was regarded as biomarker to investigate the toxic effects of BPA on plants by multi-spectroscopic techniques and molecular docking method. Firstly, BPA effectively quenched the intrinsic fluorescence of AtGPX6 via static quenching mechanism, and a single binding site of AtGPX6 towards BPA was presumed. Moreover, the binding force was mainly driven by van der Waals forces and hydrogen bonding based on the negative values of ΔH and ΔS, which was consistent with the molecular docking result. In addition, the conformational changes of AtGPX6 accompanied with the enhancement of the hydrophilicity around the tryptophan residues upon the combination with BPA, were evaluated through the combination of the fluorescence, UV-visible absorption and Circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy. Finally, the inhibitory impact on the development of Arabidopsis seedling roots was observed under BPA exposure. Therefore, the exploration of the molecular mechanism of AtGPX6 with BPA would provide valuable assessments on the toxic effects of BPA on plants.

Herein, using 1,3,5-triformylphloroglucinol (Tp) and 4,4',4″-(1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triyl) tris(1,1'-biphenyl) trianiline (Ttba) as ligands, nitrogen-rich triazine unit-based covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with a suitable pore size, named TpTtba-COFs, were synthesized, and they were employed as adsorbents for the extraction and detection of three bisphenols (BPs)-BP A (BPA), BP B (BPB), and BP S (BPS)-in water. Using 2,4,6-tris(4-aminophenyl)-1,3,5-triazine (Tapt) and 1,3,5-tris(4-aminophenyl)benzene (Tapb) ligands as substitutes for Ttba, nitrogen-rich triazine unit-based COFs with a smaller pore size and nitrogen-poor triazine unit-based COFs, named TpTapt-COFs and TpTapb-COFs, respectively, were also prepared for comparison. The adsorption performances of the three COF adsorbents with regard to the three BPs were tested.

Bisphenol A (BPA), a common endocrine disrupting chemical (EDC), has shown detrimental effects on sperm quality and function in experimental models. However, epidemiological evidence is inconsistent and also there exists a notable lack of data on its analogues, such as bisphenol F (BPF) and bisphenol S (BPS). To investigate the relationships between BPA, BPF and BPS exposures and sperm DNA damage, we conducted a cross-sectional study recruiting 474 Chinese men from an infertility clinic in Wuhan, China.

Although the design of photocatalysts incorporating donor-acceptor units has garnered significant attention for its potential to enhance the efficiency of the photocatalysis process, the primary bottleneck lies in the challenge of generating long-lived charge separation states during exciton separation. Therefore, a novel Janus-nanomicelles photocatalyst is developed using carbazole (Cz) as the donor unit, perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxydiimide (PDI) with long-excited state as the acceptor unit and polyethylene glycol (PEG) as the hydrophilic segment through ROMP polymerization. After optimizing the ratio, Cz-PDI-PEG rapidly adsorbs bisphenol A (BPA) within 10 s through π-π interaction, hydrogen-bonding interaction, and hydrophobic interaction between BPA and hydrophobic blocks when exposed to aqueous humor and efficiently photodegrades BPA (50 ppm) within 120 min for water purification purposes due to its long-lived charge separation state and achieving the highest reported efficiency so far.

Due to the continuous exposure to bisphenol-A (BPA), the current study was conducted to evaluate taurine's neuroprotective action against BPA's adverse effect on the brain. Rats were grouped into control, BPA-treated rats, and taurine + BPA-treated rats. At the end of the 35-day treatment period, the memory of the rats was evaluated using the novel object test and the Y-maze test.

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) significantly contribute to health issues by interfering with hormonal functions. Bisphenol A (BPA), a prominent EDC, is extensively utilized as a monomer and plasticizer in producing polycarbonate plastic and epoxy resins, making it one of the highest-demanded chemicals in commercial use. This is the major component used in plastic products, including bottles, containers, storage items, and food serving ware.
