Polyethyleneimine (PEI) possesses various molecular weights (MWs), structures, and virus capture capacities. However, whether PEI can capture porcine circovirus (PCV) and animal cell-derived prion protein (PrP) that may contaminate source materials is unclear. Therefore, we conducted a feasibility study to assess the effectiveness of PEI in removing PCV and PrP as a model of pathogenic prions. The removal performance of PCV was evaluated by quantitative PCR using PEIs with various MWs, structures, and ion exchange capacities in Tris (pH 7.5) and acetate (pH 5.5) buffers under neutral (pH 7.5) to acidic (pH 5.5) conditions. Removal performances of PrP were also evaluated by western blotting using PEIs with various MWs and structures. Tris buffer did not affect the ability of PEI-modified resins to remove PCV, whereas acetate buffer affected removal performances, except those of PEI-10K-Br and PEI-70K-Br, which showed high ion-exchange capacities. PrP was captured by PEIs with high MWs, especially PEI-70K-Br, which was the most effective. The results of this feasibility study suggested that PEI-modified resin could remove PCV and PrP. PEI-70K-Br with an ion-exchange capacity of at least 0.3 meq/mL appears suitable as a PEI molecule for pathogen capture or removal of PCV or PrP from biological materials.

In this work, we use the ansatz transformation functions to investigate different analytical rational solutions by symbolic computation. For the (2+1)-dimensional Calogero-Bogoyavlenskii Schiff (CBS) model, we derive a variety of rational solutions, such as homoclinic breather solutions (HBs), M-shaped rational solutions (MSRs), periodic cross-rationals (PCRs), multi-wave solutions (MWs), and kink cross-rational solutions (KCRs). Their dynamic is shown in figures by selecting appropriate values for the pertinent parameters.

Tamarind seed polysaccharide (TSP) is a neutral water-soluble galactoxyloglucan isolated from the seed kernel of with average molecular weight (Mw) 600-800 kDa. The high viscosity of TSP slows solubilisation, and the absence of charged substituent hinders the formation of electrostatic interactions with biomolecules. TSP was sulphated in a one-step process using dimethylformamide as a solvent, and sulphur trioxide-pyridine complex as a sulphating reagent.

Background: Worldwide, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the second most lethal cancer, although early-stage HCC is amenable to curative treatment and can facilitate long-term survival. Early detection has proved difficult, as proteomics, transcriptomics, and genomics have been unable to discover suitable biomarkers.
Methods: To find new biomarkers of HCC, we utilized a spatial omics N-glycan imaging method to identify altered glycosylation in cancer tissue (n = 53) and in paired serum of individuals with HCC (n = 23).

Calcium-chelated polysaccharides have been increasingly considered as promising calcium supplements. In this study, degraded fucoidans (DFs) with different molecular weights (Mws) were prepared after UV/HO treatment; their calcium-chelating capacities and intestinal absorption properties were also investigated.
