Optical metrology with picometer-scale precision in three-dimensional space is of considerable importance in modern physics and state of the art technology, optical interference is an effective method, but techniques with rapid spatial variation have the potential to enhance measurement precision, which will be required as measurement dimensions decrease. Here, the concept of the vanishingly small optical phase singularity ruler is introduced. Inspired by the well-known plumb-line technique used to locate the centroid, an analogous singularity line technique is proposed to locate the optical singularity with a precision of ~4.

A precise streamflow forecast is crucial in hydrology for flood alerts, water quantity and quality management, and disaster preparedness. Machine learning (ML) techniques are commonly employed for hydrological prediction; however, they still face certain drawbacks, such as the need to optimize the appropriate predictors, the ability of the models to generalize across different time horizons, and the analysis of high-dimensional time series. This research aims to address these specific drawbacks by developing a novel framework for streamflow forecasting.

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) from dilute sources is an important strategy for stabilizing the concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide and global temperature. However, the adsorption process is extremely challenging due to the sluggish diffusion rate of dilute CO. Herein, -phthalic acid (PTA)-derived hierarchical porous activated carbon (PTA-C) with abundant micro- and mesopores was successfully prepared for dilute CO (2 vol %) capture at ambient conditions.

Background: Corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) reinfection, particularly short-term reinfection, poses challenges to the management of rheumatic diseases and may increase adverse clinical outcomes. This study aims to develop machine learning models to predict and identify the risk of short-term COVID-19 reinfection in patients with rheumatic diseases.
Methods: We developed four prediction models using explainable machine learning to assess the risk of short-term COVID-19 reinfection in 543 patients with rheumatic diseases.
