Understanding the distribution and variation in inflammatory markers is crucial for advancing our knowledge of inflammatory processes and evaluating their clinical utility in diagnosing and monitoring acute and chronic disease. 1H NMR spectroscopy of blood plasma and serum was applied to measure a composite panel of inflammatory markers based on acute phase glycoprotein signals (GlycA and GlycB) and sub-regions of the lipoprotein derived Supramolecular Phospholipid Composite signals (SPC1, SPC2 and SPC3) to establish normal ranges in two healthy, predominantly white cohorts from Australia (n = 398) and Spain (n = 80; ages 20-70 years). GlycA, GlycB, SPC1 and SPC3 were not significantly impacted by age or sex, but SPC2 (an HDL-related biomarker) was significantly higher in women across all age ranges by an average of 33.

Synthesis of a PdL Hydrazone Molecular Cage Through Multiple Reaction Pathways.

Molecular cages are preorganized molecules with a central cavity, typically formed through the reaction of their building blocks through chemical bonds. This requires, in most cases, forming and breaking reversible bonds during the cage formation reaction pathway for error correction to drive the reaction to the cage product. In this work, we focus on both Pd-ligand and hydrazone bonds implemented in the structure of a PdL hydrazone molecular cage.

Developing single crystals of covalent organic polymers (COPs) is highly attractive as they can afford precise structural information for studying internal interactions. Employing dative boron-nitrogen (B-N) bonds to construct single-crystalline COPs is feasible since the dynamic linkages can self-correct errors, thus improving crystallization. In this project, we develop a single-crystal COP with a nanobelt structure, namely CityU-26, B-N-driven-assembly between 4,4',5,5'-tetrakis(4-(pyridin-4-yl)phenyl)-2,2'-bi(1,3-dithiolylidene) and 1,4-bis(benzodioxaborole) benzene.

The development of clean energy solutions, such as fuel cells and hydrogen energy, is crucial for addressing the global energy shortage. Platinum (Pt)-based catalysts are widely used in fuel cells and hydrogen energy generation (for example, via water electrolysis). However, reducing the amount of Pt used while maintaining the catalytic performance of such catalysts is essential.
