Chronic subdural haematoma (cSDH) is a common subtype of traumatic brain injury, typically affecting older people living with frailty and multimorbidity. Until now, no published guideline has existed internationally to guide management, perhaps explaining why the care of the older cSDH patient varies between neurosurgical centres. The Improving Care in Elderly Neurosurgery Initiative guideline is the first guideline dedicated to the care of patients with cSDH across the entire patient pathway, from initial presentation through to rehabilitation and discharge after surgery.

From the Department of Radiology (S.Q., R.C., J.C.C., M.M., B.D.A., R.A.) and the Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine (V.A., J.E.W., R.L.W., D.C.L.), Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, 737 N Michigan Ave, Ste 1600, Chicago, IL 60611; Prince Charles Hospital, Chermside, Queensland, Australia (V.A.); and the Department of Biomedical Engineering, McCormick School of Engineering, Northwestern University, Chicago, Ill (M.M.).

Orthotopic heart transplant (OHT) is a well-established therapy for end-stage heart failure that leads to improved long-term survival rates, with careful allograft surveillance essential for optimizing clinical outcomes after OHT. Unfortunately, complications can arise after OHT that can compromise the success of the OHT. Cardiac MRI is continually evolving, with a range of advanced techniques that can be applied to evaluate allograft structure and function.

The Application of Olive-Derived Polyphenols on Exercise-Induced Inflammation: A Scoping Review.

Nutrients

January 2025

Cambridge Centre for Sport and Exercise Sciences (CCSES), Faculty of Science and Engineering, Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge CB1 1PT, UK.

Background/objectives: There is current scientific interest pertaining to the therapeutic effects of olive-derived polyphenols (ODPs), in particular their associated anti-inflammatory properties, following the wealth of research surrounding the physiological impact of the Mediterranean Diet (MD). Despite this association, the majority of the current literature investigates ODPs in conjunction with metabolic diseases. There is limited research focusing on ODPs and acute inflammation following exercise, regardless of the knowledge surrounding the elevated inflammatory response during this time.
