Norcantharidin (NCTD) is a water-soluble synthetic small molecule drug that has been approved by the Chinese FDA for the treatment of cancer in China. Among these NCTD-treated cancers, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the third leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide and one of the most extensively studied. Research over the past few decades has made great strides in understanding how NCTD induces mitotic arrest, anti-proliferation, anti-metastasis, apoptosis and cytotoxic autophagy or autophagic cell death in HCC.

SGX523 is a c-Met tyrosine kinase inhibitor that failed in clinical trials because of renal toxicity caused by crystal deposits in renal tubules. SGX523 is metabolized by aldehyde oxidase (AOX) in a species-dependent manner to the considerably less soluble 2-quinolinone-SGX523, which is likely involved in the clinically observed obstructive nephropathy. This study investigated the metabolism and renal toxicity of SGX523 in chimeric mice with humanized livers (humanized-liver mice).

The early identification of women with an increased risk of preeclampsia (PE) is desirable, but apart from soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1), few biomarkers have previously been identified as relevant for predicting preeclampsia. Since kinases and phosphatases regulate critical biological processes and previous evidence suggests a potential role of these molecules in preeclampsia, we performed this systematic review and metanalysis. The objective was to determine if there are kinases and phosphatases whose serum levels are different between women with and without PE, being relevant biomarkers of PE.

Biopharma Austria, Process Science, Boehringer-Ingelheim RCV GmbH & Co KG, Dr. Boehringer-Gasse 5-11, 1121, Vienna, Austria.

Introduction: In the biopharmaceutical industry, Escherichia coli is one of the preferred expression hosts for large-scale production of therapeutic proteins. Although increasing the product yield is important, product quality is a major factor in this industry because greatest productivity does not always correspond with the highest quality of the produced protein. While some post-translational modifications, such as disulphide bonds, are required to achieve the biologically active conformation, others may have a negative impact on the product's activity, effectiveness, and/or safety.

Ovarian cancer (OC) ranks as the second most common type of gynecological malignancy, has poor survival rates, and is frequently diagnosed at an advanced stage. Platinum-based chemotherapy, such as carboplatin, represents the standard-of-care for OC. However, toxicity and acquired resistance to therapy have proven challenging for the treatment of patients.
