Depression is a common and serious illness that impairs the health of individuals and societies globally. It is associated with a significant economic burden, with productivity losses exceeding $40 billion dollars annually in the United States (U.S.) alone. This project focused on the use of a systematic, data-driven approach to improve the screening rate for depression in an academic, metropolitan cancer center located in North Texas. A multidisciplinary team collaboratively applied Lean Six Sigma education, methods, and tools within oncology and psychiatry clinics to address the increased risk of depression among oncology patients. Improving the standardization of screening and follow-up processes, resulted in a 44% sustained increase in the depression screening and follow-up performance rate. This improvement was verified to be statistically significant through the use of control charts toward the end of the project.
This study reports the outcome of a low intensity pre-treatment intervention (a guided e-health podcast) for patients with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, delivered between assessment and the start of the full outpatient treatment programme. A case series design was used. A total of 254 patients at a specialist eating disorder service were offered a pre-treatment three-week psychoeducational intervention (Keeping Myself Safe; KMS), and 203 undertook the intervention.
Background: Primary pulmonary hyalinizing clear cell carcinoma (HCCC) is a rare type of primary salivary gland-type tumor of the lung. HCCC is characterized by unique pathological features, including nests, cords, or trabeculae of clear or eosinophilic tumor cells infiltrating a mucinous or hyalinized stroma. Additional analyses of this carcinoma have revealed positive epithelial markers via immunophenotyping and gene translocation through genetic testing.
Background: Primary immunoglobulin (Ig)-associated mesangiocapillary glomerulonephritis (Ig-MCGN) is an immune complex glomerulonephritis of unknown etiology. It is a common cause of chronic kidney disease in developing countries. There is limited data available on renal and patient outcomes of this disease from developing countries.
Primary retroperitoneal seminoma is an exceedingly rare type of germ cell tumor, accounting for less than 5% of all such tumors. These tumors are typically large at presentation due to their slow growth and the nonspecific nature of symptoms, which often leads to delayed diagnosis. A 40-year-old male presented with intermittent abdominal pain and a palpable lump in the right paraumbilical region.
Introduction: Colorectal cancer (CRC) has surged to prominence as the leading cancer affecting men and the second most common affecting women in Saudi Arabia. The need for preventative screening is underscored by the rising prevalence of precancerous polyps, early-stage colorectal cancer, and the fact that these conditions often manifest without symptoms.
Methods: This study utilized a cross-sectional descriptive design and employed data from a sample of 425 residents of Qassim region in Saudi Arabia.
