Assessment of lefamulin 20 µg disk versus broth microdilution when tested against common respiratory pathogens.

Int J Antimicrob Agents

December 2024

Institute of Antibiotics, Huashan Hospital, Fudan University, Shanghai, China; Key Laboratory of Clinical Pharmacology of Antibiotics, Ministry of Health, Shanghai, China; Joint Laboratory of Hospital & Enterprise for Pathogen Diagnosis of Drug-resistant Bacterial Infections and Innovative Drug R&D, Shanghai, China. Electronic address:

Objective: To evaluate the performance of the disk diffusion test with lefamulin 20 µg compared with the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) reference broth microdilution (BMD) method.

Methods: A total of 572 clinical stains, including 240 Staphylococcus aureus, 211 Streptococcus pneumoniae, and 121 Haemophilus influenzae, isolated from 71 medical centres from the China Antimicrobial Surveillance Network in 2020. BMD method and disk diffusion methods were performed according to CLSI.

Assessment of broth disk elution method for aztreonam in combination with ceftazidime/avibactam against isolates.

Microbiol Spectr

October 2024

Department of Laboratory, Chengdu Women's and Children's Central Hospital, School of Medicine, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, China.

Unlabelled: The combination of aztreonam with ceftazidime/avibactam is considered a potential therapeutic approach for the treatment of infections caused by metallo-β-lactamase (MBL)-producing isolates. In this study, antibacterial activity of aztreonam with avibactam against 204 carbapenemase-producing was determined by broth disk elution (BDE) method of two detection volumes (5- and 2-mL broth), with broth microdilution (BMD) method as a reference. For the BDE-5mL test, the categorical agreement (CA) of ATM+CZA tube (aztreonam/ceftazidime/avibactam: 6/6/4 mg/L) was 99.

Implementation of a Multicomponent Program to Improve Effective Use and Maintenance of Medical Equipment in Sri Lankan Hospitals.

WHO South East Asia J Public Health

July 2023

Australian Centre for Health Services Innovation and Centre for Healthcare Transformation, School of Public Health and Social Work, Queensland University of Technology, Kelvin Grove, QLD, Australia.

Background: Medical equipment (ME) maintenance retains an asset's original anticipated useful life and preserves its reliability and cost-effectiveness. This study developed and implemented a multicomponent program to improve ME use and maintenance in nine Sri Lankan hospitals from May 2020 to May 2021.

Methods: This pre-post implementation study involved an initial baseline assessment of existing ME maintenance systems, the development and implementation of a multicomponent improvement program, and a 3-month postevaluation.

There are increasing reports of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) that test as cefepime-susceptible (S) or susceptible-dose dependent (SDD). However, there are no data to compare the cefepime testing performance of BD Phoenix automated susceptibility system (BD Phoenix) and disk diffusion (DD) relative to reference broth microdilution (BMD) against carbapenemase-producing (CP-CRE) and non-producing (non-CP CRE) isolates. Cefepime susceptibility results were interpreted according to CLSI M100Ed32.
