Copper(I) π-coordination compounds with allyl derivatives of azoles are an interesting subject of current research, but Cu π-complexes with other transition-metal ions incorporated in the structure have been virtually uninvestigated. The present work is directed toward the synthesis and structural characterization of the novel heterometallic Cu/Fe π-complex di-μ-chlorido-1:2κCl;2:3κCl-tetrakis[μ-5-(prop-2-en-1-ylsulfanyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-amine]-1:2κN:N;1(η),κN:2κN;2:3κN:N;2κN:3(η),κN-dicopper(I)iron(II) tetrachloridoferrate(II), [CuFeCl(CHNS)][FeCl] (1). The structure of the 5-[(prop-2-en-1-yl)sulfanyl]-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-amine (Pesta, CHNS) ligand is also presented. The cationic substructure in 1 consists of one Fe and two Cu ions bridged by two chloride ions along with two σ,σ- and two π,σ-coordinated ligands, whereas the anionic part is built of isolated tetrahedral [FeCl] ions. π-Coordination of the Pesta allyl group to the Cu ions prevents agglomeration of the inorganic Cu-Cl-Fe-Cl-Cu part into infinate chains. An energy framework computational analysis was performed for Pesta.

Introduction: Liquisolid (LS) technology is particularly advantageous for poorly water-soluble drugs administered in very low doses because of the improved dissolution rate and superior content uniformity. However, there is a lack of research papers describing the application of this concept on an industrial scale. Thus, we present trials conducted to develop tablets containing 0.

Background: Melanoma is the most aggressive skin cancer with ability to recur also after early-stage tumor surgery. The aim was to identify early-stage melanoma patients at high risk of recurrence using liquid biopsy, estimating of mutated BRAF ctDNA and the level of tumor marker S100B in plasma.

Methods: Eighty patients were enrolled in the study.

Article Synopsis
  • Patients with active cancer or metastatic cancer are at a higher risk for acute cholecystitis, leading to increased complications and mortality when they receive surgical treatment.
  • A study analyzed the treatment outcomes of 8,673 patients with acute cholecystitis, finding that those with cancer had a significantly higher 30-day mortality rate and higher chances of complications such as infectious issues.
  • The findings suggest that cancer patients are often managed nonoperatively more than non-cancer patients, highlighting the need for tailored treatment approaches due to their distinct risk factors.

Harmonization of experimental procedures to assess mitochondrial respiration in human permeabilized skeletal muscle fibers.

Dept Physiological Sciences, Univ Barcelona and Bellvitge Biomedical Research Inst, Spain. Electronic address:

Aim: High-resolution respirometry in human permeabilized muscle fibers is extensively used for analysis of mitochondrial adaptions to nutrition and exercise interventions, and is linked to athletic performance. However, the lack of standardization of experimental conditions limits quantitative inter- and intra-laboratory comparisons.

Methods: In our study, an international team of investigators measured mitochondrial respiration of permeabilized muscle fibers obtained from three biopsies (vastus lateralis) from the same healthy volunteer to avoid inter-individual variability.

Worldwide stroke is the second leading cause of death and the third leading cause of death and disability combined. The estimated global economic burden by stroke is over US$891 billion per year. Within three decades (1990-2019), the incidence increased by 70%, deaths by 43%, prevalence by 102%, and DALYs by 143%.
