In 2020, made a pledge to actively work towards improving diversity in our field. As we head into 2021, Black urologists make up only 2% of the US workforce in urology; this lack of representation is detrimental to the field as a whole and to the patients it serves. In this Viewpoint, which follows on from our previous article ‘Supporting Black voices in urology’, 12 medical students who have chosen to enter the field recount their experiences, describing their reasons for entering urology and why they chose particular programmes. As well as illustrating the importance of mentorship and representation, they also offer ideas on how urology programmes can better appeal to Black students, in order to encourage and support under-represented minorities into our specialty in the future.

Background: Older African American and Black adults are twice as likely to develop Alzheimer disease and related dementias (ADRD) and have the lowest level of ADRD health literacy compared to any other ethnic group in the United States. Low health literacy concerning ADRD negatively impacts African American and Black people in accessing adequate health care.

Objective: This study explored how 3 technological modalities-voice assistants, chatbots, and mobile apps-can assist older African American and Black adults in accessing ADRD information to improve ADRD health literacy.

This qualitative study examines the distinct experiences of Black/African American nurses in providing end-of-life care to patients of the same racial background and their families. It fills a significant gap in existing research by focusing on the lived experiences and perceptions of Black/African American nurses, gathered through semistructured interviews. Using phenomenological analysis with Colaizzi's method, the study identified principal themes such as racial and ethnic disparities in treatment, challenges in pain management, the need for cultural sensitivity, and the significant influence of historical Black/African American patients' mistrust in health care interactions.

Technology-based interventions (TBIs) for substance use treatment show promise in reducing barriers to evidence-based treatment, yet no studies have described how TBIs may impact racial or ethnic health equity.
