Levels of loneliness across the world have reached epidemic proportions, and their impact upon population health is increasingly apparent. In response, policies and initiatives have attempted to reduce loneliness by targeting social isolation among residents of local communities. Yet, little is known about the social psychological processes underpinning the relationships between community belonging, loneliness, and well-being. We report three studies which apply the Social Identity Approach to Health to examine the mechanisms underpinning the relationships between community identity, health, and loneliness. Hypotheses were tested through secondary analyses of the 2014-2015 UK Community Life Survey (N = 4,314) as well as bespoke household surveys in a more (N = 408) and less (N = 143) affluent community at high risk of loneliness. Studies 1 and 2a demonstrated that the relationship between community identification and well-being was mediated by increased social support and reduced loneliness. In Study 2b, community identification predicted well-being through reduced loneliness, but not through social support. Our results are the first to evidence these relationships and suggest that community-level interventions that enhance community identification and peer support can promote a potential Social Cure for loneliness.

Variations in stair descent phenotypes may reflect differences in physical function and biomechanical stability, and their identification may prevent falls.
Aims: This study aims to classify stair descent phenotypes in older adults and investigate the biomechanical and physical functional differences between these phenotypes using hierarchical cluster analysis.

Despite extensive research on the intergenerational transmission of values, the continuity of parenting practices and underlying cognitive processes of transmission have received relatively little attention. We explored the mediating role of introjected and identified internalization on the intergenerational continuity of four parenting practices related to religion (assurance, disapproval/punishment, social involvement, and encouraged skepticism). We focused on Catholicism as an important test case based on its distinctive components amongst other Christian denominations.

The composition of the gut microbiome is determined by a complex interplay of diet, host genetics, microbe-microbe interactions, abiotic factors, and stochasticity. Previous studies have demonstrated the importance of host genetics in community assembly of the gut microbiome and identified a central role for DBL-1/BMP immune signaling in determining the abundance of gut . However, the effects of DBL-1 signaling on gut bacteria were found to depend on its activation in extra-intestinal tissues, highlighting a gap in our understanding of the proximal factors that determine microbiome composition.

Purpose: This research aims to identify the problems and needs of families of children with reading difficulties, develop an Integrated Process-Based Family Education Program (IPMD-F) to address these needs, and implement it.
Methods: The study used a community-based participatory action research approach, following a four-stage process: general information collection, needs identification and action plan creation, development and implementation of the IPMD-F, and evaluation. Conducted during the 2023-2024 academic year in Ankara, Turkey, with 16 volunteer parents of children diagnosed with learning disabilities, data were collected using qualitative and quantitative tools.

This paper contributes to the existing literature by exploring the psychosocial processes through which stressors become traumatic during an extreme event.
