Phenyltelluroxane clusters of the composition [{(PhTe) O } I (solv)] (1) are formed during the hydrolysis of [PhTeI ] or the oxidation of various phenyltellurium(II) compounds with iodine under hydrolytic conditions. The compounds consist of two half-spheres with a {(PhTe) O } network, which are connected by 18 iodine atoms. The spherical clusters can accommodate solvent molecules such as pyridine or methanol in the center of two rings formed by iodine atoms. The presence of other metal ions during the cluster formation results in a selective replacement of the central {PhTe} units of each half-sphere as has been demonstrated with the isolation of [{(PhTe) ({Ca(H O) }O } I ] (2) and [{(PhTe) ({Y(NO )(H O)}O } I ] (3). A crownether-like coordination by six oxygen atoms of the telluroxane network is found for the {Ca(H O} } and {Y(NO )(H O)} building blocks. Mass spectrometric studies show that considerable amounts of the intact clusters are transferred to the gas phase without dissociation.

Objectives: To establish a spectral CT-based nomogram for predicting the response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in patients with locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC).
Methods: This retrospective study included 172 patients with ESCC who underwent spectral CT scans before NAC followed by resection. Based on postoperative tumor regression grades (TRG), 34% (58) of patients were responsive (TRG1) and 66% (114) were non-responsive (TRG2-3).

Bentonite is regarded as an adequate buffer material in deep geological repositories and its swelling properties serve to prevent the penetration of groundwater into the repository and to minimize the release of radionuclides. However, bentonite is rarely effective in removing anionic radionuclides due to its permanent negative surface charge. The aim of this study was to enhance the anion removal ability of bentonite by incorporating layered double hydroxides (LDH) with a high anion exchange capacity.

Background: Early rectal neoplasms can be treated endoscopically with good prognosis, yet usually present with unspecific or an absence of signs and symptoms and are detected largely by invasive endoscopy with less compliance to screening. The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to explore the diagnostic value of dual-layer spectral detector computed tomography (DSCT) imaging for early rectal neoplasm.
Methods: Patients who underwent DSCT for evaluation of rectal lesion or routine examination between September 2022 to September 2023 at West China Hospital were prospectively included and identified as group A (control, n=76), group B (rectal advanced adenomas and ≤T1 rectal cancer, n=59), and group C (≥T2 staging rectal cancer, n=74).

The challenges posed by the non-conductive nature of iodine, coupled with the easy formation of soluble polyiodides in water, impede its integration with zinc for the development of advanced rechargeable batteries. Here we demonstrate the in-situ loading of molybdenum carbide nanoclusters (MoC) and zinc single atoms (Zn-SA) into porous carbon fibers to invoke electrocatalytic conversion of iodine at the interface. The electronic interactions between MoC and Zn-SA lead to an upshift in the d-band center of Mo relative to the Fermi level, thus promoting the interfacial interactions with iodine species to suppress shuttle effects.

(1) Background: Since the discovery of antibiotics in the first half of the 20th century, humans have abused this privilege, giving rise to antibiotic-resistant pathogens. Recent research has brought to light the use of antimicrobial peptides in polymers, hydrogels, and nanoparticles (NPs) as a newer and safer alternative to traditional antibiotics. (2) Methods: This review article is a synthesis of the scientific works published in the last 15 years, focusing on the synthesis of polymers with proven antimicrobial properties.
