The interfacial charge transfer still limits the photoactivity of artificial Z-scheme photocatalysts although they showed complementary light absorption and a strong photoredox ability. In this study, layered metallene is designed as an efficient electron mediator for constructing a CN/bismuthene/BiOCl 2D/2D/2D Z-scheme system. This bismuthene serves as a bridge processing superior charge conductibility, abundant metal-semiconductor contact sites, and the shortened charge diffusion distance, enhancing the photocatalytic CO reduction reaction activity and stability. Density functional theory calculations show that the bismuthene creates a built-in electric field and congregates interfacial electrons, which is confirmed by the stable and consistent emission of the ultrafast transient absorption spectra. This work gives new insight into the interface design of Z-scheme photocatalysts by selecting a novel metallene electron mediator.

Whipworms (Trichuris spp) are ubiquitous parasites of humans and domestic and wild mammals that cause chronic disease, considerably impacting human and animal health. Egg hatching is a critical phase in the whipworm life cycle that marks the initiation of infection, with newly hatched larvae rapidly migrating to and invading host intestinal epithelial cells. Hatching is triggered by the host microbiota; however, the physical and chemical interactions between bacteria and whipworm eggs, as well as the bacterial and larval responses that result in the disintegration of the polar plug and larval eclosion, are not completely understood.

Nowadays, intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is the main cause of death and disability, and motor impairment is a common sequel to ICH. Electroacupuncture (EA) has been widely used for functional recovery after ICH. However, its role and associated regulatory mechanisms in rehabilitation after ICH remain poorly understood.

Two π-radical complexes containing bisazo-aromatic-centered radical anion (1•-) were synthesized through in-situ electron transfer from metal-to-ligand using [IrI] and 2-(2-Pyridylazo)azobenzene (1) in inert hydrocarbon solvent. These are characterized as diradical [IrIII(1•-)2]+[2]+ and monoradical [IrIII(1•-)Cl2(PPh3)] 3. In contrast, a rare metal-mediated hydrolytic cleavage of the C(sp2)-N bond occurred in protic solvent resulting in quaternary radical complex [IrIII(1•-)(1')(PPh3)]+(4)+.

Cholestasis is a multifactorial hepatobiliary disorder, characterized by obstruction of bile flow and accumulation of bile, which in turn causes damage to liver cells and other tissues. In severe cases, it can result in the development of life-threatening conditions, including cirrhosis and liver cancer. Paeoniflorin (PF) has been demonstrated to possess favourable therapeutic potential for the treatment of cholestasis.

The mechanisms that drive placental dysfunction in pregnancies complicated by hypoxia and fetal growth restriction remain poorly understood. Changes to mitochondrial respiration contribute to cellular dysfunction in conditions of hypoxia and have been implicated in the pathoaetiology of pregnancy complications, such as pre-eclampsia. We used bespoke isobaric hypoxic chambers and a combination of functional, molecular and imaging techniques to study cellular metabolism and mitochondrial dynamics in sheep undergoing hypoxic pregnancy.
