Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic will continue affecting pregnant women with possibility of vertical transmissions. However, knowledge and evidences regarding vertical transmission of COVID-19 are just emerging. This information is very crucial in the obstetrical care of COVID-19 infected women as well as in the care of newborn born to COVID-19 positive mothers. We report a case of vertical transmission in a neonate born to asymptomatic COVID-19 infected mother. Newborn was immediately shifted to isolation nursery and formula feed was started. The nasopharyngeal swab of newborn taken at 42 hours of life tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 by RT-PCR. Therefore the vertical transmission in COVID-19 is possible. Despite this, the neonatal outcome is good. Keywords: Duodenal atresia; flip flop circulation; neonates; persistent pulmonary hypertension of newborn.

Problem: Although it is still uncertain whether Severe Acute Respiratory Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) placental infection and vertical transmission occur, inflammation during early pregnancy can have devastating consequences for gestation itself and the growing fetus. If and how SARS-CoV-2-specific immune cells negatively affect placenta functionality is still unknown.

Method Of Study: We stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from women of reproductive age with SARS-CoV-2 peptides and cocultured them with trophoblast spheroids (HTR-8/SVneo and JEG-3) to dissect if SARS-CoV-2-activated immune cells can interfere with trophoblast functionality.

Background: Vertical transmission from mother to child during the perinatal period is a key route of hepatitis B infection. The infection rate among children of mothers who are hepatitis B carriers is high.

Purpose: This study was designed to investigate the hepatitis-B-related preventive health behavior of pregnant women and related factors.

Purpose: To develop an end-to-end convolutional neural network model for analyzing hematoxylin and eosin(H&E)-stained histological images, enhancing the performance and efficiency of nuclear segmentation and classification within the digital pathology workflow.

Methods: We propose a dual-mechanism feature pyramid fusion technique that integrates nuclear segmentation and classification tasks to construct the HistoNeXt network model. HistoNeXt utilizes an encoder-decoder architecture, where the encoder, based on the advanced ConvNeXt convolutional framework, efficiently and accurately extracts multi-level abstract features from tissue images.

Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV), a pestivirus in the family , is a major livestock pathogen. Horizontal transmission leads to acute transient infections via the oronasal route, whereas vertical transmission might lead to the birth of immunotolerant, persistently infected animals. In both cases, BVDV exerts an immunosuppressive effect, predisposing infected animals to secondary infections.

FP-YOLOv8: Surface Defect Detection Algorithm for Brake Pipe Ends Based on Improved YOLOv8n.

Sensors (Basel)

December 2024

School of Mechanical and Power Engineering, Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou 450000, China.

To address the limitations of existing deep learning-based algorithms in detecting surface defects on brake pipe ends, a novel lightweight detection algorithm, FP-YOLOv8, is proposed. This algorithm is developed based on the YOLOv8n framework with the aim of improving accuracy and model lightweight design. First, the C2f_GhostV2 module has been designed to replace the original C2f module.
