The technique of blood collection from the lateral caudal vein has been improved. The method requires only moderate skill and no anaesthesia is necessary. Collection of blood samples causes little trauma and can be repeated at frequent (8 h) intervals thus making the method particularly suitable for pharmacokinetic and hormonal studies. Blood samples are uncontaminated by tissue fluids. Large volumes can be obtained, in mice up to 1.5 ml and in Wistar rats over 4 ml.

Objectives: Cardiac biomarkers are useful for the diagnostic and prognostic assessment of myocardial injury (MI) and heart failure. By measuring specific proteins released into the bloodstream during heart stress or damage, these biomarkers help clinicians detect the presence and extent of heart injury and tailor appropriate treatment plans. This study aims to provide robust biological variation (BV) data for cardiac biomarkers in athletes, specifically focusing on those applied to detect or exclude MI, such as myoglobin, creatine kinase-myocardial band (CK-MB) and cardiac troponins (cTn), and those related to heart failure and cardiac dysfunction, brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) and N-terminal brain natriuretic pro-peptide (NT-proBNP).

Objectives: To identify if chemotherapeutic drugs in the CHOP-based protocol led to an increase in renal parameters in dogs with lymphoma during therapy and investigate whether factors such as prednisolone use or age affected this result.
Methods: Data were obtained retrospectively from private referral practice records of dogs diagnosed with lymphoma receiving a CHOP-based chemotherapy protocol between 2015 and 2019. Dogs included received a CHOP-based protocol as their first treatment, received four full cycles and were in remission at the end of the protocol.

Background And Objectives: Identification of colorectal cancer (CRC) patients at high risk of recurrence could be of substantial clinical use. We evaluated the association of ctDNA status, using a tumor-informed assay, with recurrence-free survival (RFS).
Methods: Stage III CRC patients were enrolled between 2016 and 2020.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to explore the correlation between blood test indicators and Atrial Fibrillation (AF) in Individuals Aged 65 and Older in Yangzhou, Jiangsu.
Methods: From January 1, 2019, to August 31, 2023, an epidemiological cross-sectional survey was conducted among the elderly population undergoing health check-ups at Northern Jiangsu People's Hospital in Jiangsu Province. Patients diagnosed with AF after a 12-lead electrocardiogram were included in the case group, and non-AF individuals matched by age and gender in a 1:4 frequency ratio were included in the control group.

Self-collected dried blood spot (DBS) samples may be useful in monitoring viral load (VL) in research studies or clinically given that they eliminate the need for participants to travel to study sites or laboratories. Despite this, little information exists about monitoring VL using DBS self-collected at home, and no information exists on DBS for this use among older rural people living with HIV (PLH), a population that could benefit from self-collection given difficulty accessing care. We report on the feasibility and acceptability of self-collected DBS samples, DBS VL results, concordance between self-reported and DBS VL, and factors associated with DBS detectable VL in a rural Southern U.
