In this paper, a confidence set-membership state estimator is proposed for a class of polytopic linear parameter varying (LPV) systems with inexact scheduling variables. The set-bounded and Gaussian uncertainties are considered simultaneously in the process disturbances and measurement noises. The purpose of the proposed estimator is to achieve a confidence set of the state with given confidence level. Based on the polytopic LPV uncertain enclosure model, the set-bounded/Gaussian uncertainties of the state are given by using the worst case strategy. The size of the confidence set is minimized to get the optimal gain for the estimator. Meanwhile, the constrained zonotope is adopted to represent set-bounded uncertainties for more accurate results. Finally, a vehicle example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of proposed methods.

This paper studies the problem of secure control of automated vehicles in a platoon-based driving pattern over a vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET) subject to various cyber attacks. The platoon under consideration is a convoy of a leader vehicle whose control input is unknown to its following vehicles and some follower vehicles with uncertain heterogeneous engine time constants, bounded disturbance and noise. First, a local estimator is developed for each follower vehicle so as to construct some confidence ellipsoidal estimation region always enclosing vehicular true state regardless of uncertain heterogenous engine time constants, bounded disturbance and noise.

We present a method, known in control theory, to give set-membership estimates for the states of a population in which an infectious disease is spreading. An estimation is reasonable due to the fact that the parameters of the equations describing the dynamics of the disease are not known with certainty. We discuss the properties of the resulting estimations.

Three experiments were conducted to investigate whether response processes can start before memory scanning has finished when both are required in the same task. In Experiment 1 the color of a stimulus letter determined which hand might respond, and the letter's memory set membership determined whether that response should be made or withheld. Electrophysiological data suggested that lateralized response preparation was not initiated until memory scanning finished.
