A series of new poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)-based copolyimides varying in hard segment structure are reported in this work as CO selective separation membranes. Their structural diversity was achieved by using different aromatic dianhydrides (4,4'-oxydiphthalic anhydride (ODPA), 4,4'-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride (6FDA)) and diamines (4,4'-oxydianiline (ODA), 4,4'-(4,4'-isopropylidene-diphenyl-1,1'- diyldioxy)dianiline (IPrDA), 2,3,5,6-tetramethyl-1,4-phenylenediamine (4MPD)), while keeping the content of PEO (2000 g/mol) constant (around 50%). To get a better insight into the effects of hard segment structure on gas transport properties, a series of aromatic polyimides with the same chemistry was also studied. Both series of polymers were characterized by HNMR, FTIR, WAXD, DSC, TGA, and AFM. Permeabilities for pure He, O, N, and CO were determined at 6 bar and at 30 °C, and for CO for pressures ranging from 1 to 10 bar. The results show that OPDA-ODA-PEO is the most permeable copolyimide, with CO permeability of 52 Barrer and CO/N selectivity of 63, in contrast to its fully aromatic analogue, which was the least permeable among polyimides. 6FDA-4MPD-PEO ranks second, with a two times lower CO permeability and slightly lower selectivity, although 6FDA-4MPD was over 900 times more permeable than OPDA-ODA. As an explanation, partial filling of hard domain free voids by PEO segments and imperfect phase separation were proposed.

Neurosignaling is increasingly recognized as a critical factor in cancer progression, where neuronal innervation of primary tumors contributes to the disease's advancement. This study focuses on segmenting individual axons within the prostate tumor microenvironment, which have been challenging to detect and analyze due to their irregular morphologies. We present a novel deep learning-based approach for the automated segmentation of axons, AxonFinder, leveraging a U-Net model with a ResNet-101 encoder, based on a multiplexed imaging approach.

Objectives: To investigate the performance of a deep learning (DL) model for segmenting cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans taken before and after mandibular horizontal guided bone regeneration (GBR) to evaluate hard tissue changes.
Materials And Methods: The proposed SegResNet-based DL model was trained on 70 CBCT scans. It was tested on 10 pairs of pre- and post-operative CBCT scans of patients who underwent mandibular horizontal GBR.

Polyurea (PUR) has been widely used as a protective coating in recent years. In order to complete the understanding of the relationship between PUR microstructure and its energy absorption capabilities, the mechanical and dynamic performance of PURs containing various macrodiol structural units were compared using material characterization techniques and molecular dynamic simulation. The results showed that the PUR polycarbonate diols formed as energy absorbing materials showed high tensile strength, high toughness, and excellent loss factor distribution based on the comparison of stress-strain tensile curves, glass transition temperatures, phase images, and dynamic storage loss modulus.

A series of Si-H- or Si-Vi-terminated, branched and linear oligomers containing MeSiO segments were prepared by equilibrium polymerization or non-equilibrium polymerization initiated by living anions, respectively. These oligomers were used to improve the defects of concentrated crosslinking points and the high hardness of crosslinked products when using phenyltris(dimethylsiloxy)silane or 1,1,5,5-tetramethyl-3,3-diphenyl trisiloxane as crosslinking agents in the preparation of silicone gel. NMR, FT-IR, and GPC characterized the structure and molecular weight information of the prepared oligomers.

Quillaja saponins (QS), a natural amphiphilic food additive, have significant potential in modulating the properties of starchy products. However, a systematic understanding of this phenomenon and the underlying molecular mechanisms remains lacking. In this study, two-stage molecular dynamics (MD) simulations combined with multiple experimental approaches were employed to investigate the modulation of starch properties by QS through six chain dynamic behaviors.
