Unlabelled: Low tidal volume ventilation and prone positioning are recommended therapies yet underused in acute respiratory distress syndrome. We aimed to assess the role of interventions focused on implementation of low tidal volume ventilation and prone positioning in mechanically ventilated adult patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome.
Data Sources: PubMed, Excerpta Medica Database, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials.
Study Selection: We searched the four databases from January 1, 2001, to January 28, 2021, for studies that met the predefined search criteria. Selected studies focused on interventions to improve implementation of low tidal volume ventilation and prone positioning in mechanically ventilated patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome.
Data Extraction: Two authors independently performed study selection and data extraction using a standardized form.
Data Synthesis: Due to methodological heterogeneity of included studies, meta-analysis was not feasible; thus, we provided a narrative summary and assessment of the literature. Eight nonrandomized studies met our eligibility criteria. Most studies looked at interventions to improve adherence to low tidal volume ventilation. Most interventions focused on education for providers. Studies were primarily conducted in the ICU and involved trainees, intensivists, respiratory therapists, and critical care nurses. Although overall quality of the studies was very low, the primary outcomes of interest suggest that interventions could improve adherence to or implementation of low tidal volume ventilation and prone positioning in acute respiratory distress syndrome.
Measurements And Main Results: Two authors independently performed study selection and data extraction using a standardized form. Conclusions: There is a dearth of literature addressing interventions to improve implementation of evidence-based practices in acute respiratory distress syndrome. Existing interventions to improve clinician knowledge and facilitate application of low tidal volume ventilation and prone positioning may be effective, but supporting studies have significant limitations.

Background: Previously, a depth of anesthesia bispectral index (BIS™) <45 was considered lowand found to have no clinical benefit. A BIS <35 was considered very low and was not only without evident clinical benefit but also associated with a greater risk of postoperative delirium. We considered the association between BIS and the anesthetic dose of inhalational agents, quantified using the minimum alveolar concentration (MAC) fraction, which was the patient's end-tidal inhalational agent concentration divided by the agent's altitude- and age-adjusted minimum alveolar percentage concentration.

Introduction: Ischemic stroke in patients with a systemic tumor disease or cancer not in remission (active tumors) is less well understood. Some aspects of such paraneoplastic strokes remind on a generalized cerebrovascular disorder. We hypothesized that cerebrovascular regulation in active tumor patients with a stroke is different from other patients with stroke who have no active tumor disease.

Well-trained individuals, compared to less well-trained individuals, exhibit a lower minute ventilation (V̇) and higher end-tidal partial pressure of CO (PCO) at a given work rate. This study investigated whether such breathing adaptations seen in well-trained individuals also applied to elite long-distance runners. Forty-one long-distance runners were categorized into high (Long-High, consisting of Tokyo-Hakone College Ekiden [relay marathon] runners and Olympic athletes, n=23), or low performance-level group (Long-Low, n=18) according to their race times.

Capacitive sensors are commonly used in superconducting gravimeters due to their high resolution and low drift. This study developed a cryogenic front-end circuit for superconducting gravimeters to reduce the negative effects of parasitic capacitance on capacitive sensors. The front-end circuit comprises a noiseless superconducting transformer and a low-noise cryogenic preamplifier, both of which are positioned adjacent to the capacitive sensor probe.

Objective: To assess the predictive effects of end-tidal carbon dioxide partial pressure (PETCO) in combination with pH measurement in confirming gastric tube placement in neurologically critical patients.
Methods: This study included 105 patients with gastric tubes placed in the neurological intensive care unit of Henan Provincial People's Hospital between November 2023 and April 2024. By employing X-ray as a gold standard, we compared the predictive value of PETCO, pH testing, or PETCO in combination with pH measurement on the position of the tubes.
