Background: The longevity of the grafted hair follicles is still debated and there are limited literature available on this topic.

Aim: To assess the longevity of transplanted hairs after follicular unit transfer (FUT).

Materials And Methods: A total of 112 patients who had undergone FUT were included in the study and their results at the end of 4 years were compared with the 1 year post surgery results by standardized images. The reduction in the density of the grafted hair follicles was graded by a blinded observer in a grading scale.

Results: Among 112 subjects 50.89% had grade 4, 46.42% had grade 5, 2.67% had grade 6 alopecia respectfully. The 4 year follow up grading of hair loss showed moderate reduction in transplanted hair density in 55.35%, slightly reduced density in 27.67% greatly reduced in 8.03% and no change in the density in 8.92% subjects.

Conclusion: The hair grafts transplanted may not last permanently for all the subjects. Recipient site influence might affect the growth and long-term survival of the transplanted hairs.

Introduction: Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a multifactorial and age-related dermatological disease that affects both males and females, usually at older ages. Traditional hair repair drugs exemplified by minoxidil have limitations such as skin irritation and hypertrichosis. Thus, attention has been shifted to the use of repurposing drugs.

An Institute of National Importance, Government of India, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) Ahmedabad, Palaj, Opp. Air Force Station, Gandhinagar 382355, Gujarat, India.

It is well known that impaired wound healing associated with diabetes mellitus has led to a challenging problem as well as a global economic healthcare burden. Conventional wound care therapies like films, gauze, and bandages fail to cure diabetic wounds, thereby demanding a synergistic and promising wound care therapy. This investigation aimed to develop a novel, greener synthesis of a laser-responsive silver nanocolloid (LR-SNC) prepared using hyaluronic acid as a bioreductant.

Gas-propelled anti-hair follicle aging microneedle patch for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia.

J Control Release

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Bioactive Molecules and Druggability Assessment, Guangdong Basic Research Center of Excellence for Natural Bioactive Molecules and Discovery of Innovative Drugs, College of Pharmacy, Jinan University, Guangzhou 511436, China. Electronic address:

Existing treatments for androgenetic alopecia (AGA) are unsatisfactory, owing to the two major reasons: (1) Oxidative stress and vascularization deficiency in the perifollicular environment provoke the premature senescence of hair follicles, limiting transformation from the telogen to the anagen phase; (2) The amount of drug delivered to the perifollicular region located in the deep dermis is very limited for passive drug delivery systems. Herein, we developed a gas-propelledmicroneedle patch integrated with ferrum-chelated puerarin/quercetin nanoparticles (PQFN) to increase drug accumulation in hair follicles and reshape the perifollicular environment for improved hair-regenerating effects. PQFN can rejuvenate testosterone (Tes)-induced senescence of dermal papilla cells by scavenging ROS, restoring mitochondrial function, regulating signaling pathways related to hair regeneration, and upregulating hair growth-promoting genes.

Effect of amniotic fluid on hair follicle growth.

J Dermatolog Treat

December 2025

Acibadem Labcell Cellular Therapy Laboratory, Istanbul, Turkey.

Human amniotic fluid stem cells (hAFSCs) have shown significant regenerative potential in treating hair loss, wound healing, and tissue repair. This study aims to evaluate the effects of human amniotic fluid (hAF) on hair follicle (HF) regeneration and immune system modulation. The hAF used was pooled, acellular, and gamma-irradiated to standardize its contents and enhance its stability.

Alopecia, a common dermatological condition, poses significant psychological and social challenges. Despite the availability of various treatments, their efficacy is often limited by poor bioavailability and delivery challenges. Nanostructured lipid carriers have emerged as promising advanced drug delivery systems for alopecia treatment due to their ability to encapsulate both hydrophilic and lipophilic compounds, enhancing their stability, solubility, and controlled release.
