Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) is an acquired disorder characterized by systemic activation of blood coagulation, which can arise from various causes. Owing to its abrupt onset, rapid progression, and high mortality rate, DIC presents a major clinical challenge. Anticoagulant drugs, such as heparin or low-molecular-weight heparin, are the current gold standard of treatment; however, these interventions pose considerable bleeding risks.

While the association between coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) and neutrophils extracellular traps (NETs) is recognized, uncertainties remain regarding its precise onset, timing of resolution and target therapy. To assess changes in inflammatory and NET markers during the first week of COVID-19 hospitalization, and the association with disease severity. "In vitro" experiments investigated the effect of antiplatelets, anticoagulants, and cyclic nucleotide stimulators on NETs release.

Background: Flow cytometry protocols for counting fresh CD34+ cell samples are not ideal for cryopreserved products due to cryoprotectant cytotoxicity. For cryopreserved samples, often large volumes of hypotonic solutions, which can cause cell death, are used to remove the cryoprotectant with a post-thaw wash. We recently developed a novel multistep dilution method with subsequent flow cytometry analysis to allow for accurate and reproducible results.

One of the essential factors in the appropriate treatment of infections is accurate and timely laboratory diagnosis. The correct diagnosis of infections plays a vital role in determining desirable therapy and controlling the spread of pathogens. Traditional methods of infection diagnosis are limited by several factors such as insufficient sensitivity and specificity, being time-consuming and laborious, having a low ability to distinguish infection from non-infectious inflammatory conditions and a low potential to predict treatment outcomes.
