Resveratrol, a natural polyphenol, has shown promising neuroprotective effects in several in vivo and in vitro experimental models. However, the mechanisms by which resveratrol mediates these effects are not fully understood. Glutamate is the major excitatory neurotransmitter in the brain; however, excessive extracellular glutamate levels can affect neural activity in several neurological diseases.

Evaluation of the Role of PnuC Gene in Enhancing Nicotinamide Mononucleotide Synthesis.

Biotechnol Appl Biochem

January 2025

Department of Chemical Engineering, Chungbuk National University, Cheongju, Chungbuk, Republic of Korea.

The PnuC gene plays a crucial role in the complex processes related to the absorption and synthesis of the nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) precursor. NMN, a nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) precursor, is important for cellular energy metabolism, DNA repair, and antiaging. This study focuses on elucidating the precursor absorption mechanism and the specific function of the PnuC gene in encoding membrane transport proteins, as well as its impact on the regulation and dynamics of NMN within the cell.

Alternative splicing plays a fundamental role in gene expression and protein complexity. Aberrant splicing impairs cell homeostasis and is closely associated with aging and cellular senescence. Significant changes to alternative splicing, including dysregulated splicing events and the abnormal expression of splicing factors, have been detected during the aging process or in age-related disorders.

Osteoblasts play a critical role in maintaining bone homeostasis. Senescence causes by free radical-mediated oxidative stress may affect the viability and osteogenic differentiation potential of osteoblast during bone formation. To eliminate the impacts of senescent cells by free radical scavenging is an optimal option for bone regeneration in age-related bone disease, such as osteoporosis (OP) and periodontitis.
