To establish the optimal detection of third-generation cephalosporin-resistant Enterobacterales (3GCREB), the performance of four different screening methods has been investigated: stool samples without (A) and with (B) pre-enrichment and rectal swabs without (C) and with (D) pre-enrichment were contrasted. Pre-enrichment approaches (B and D) increased the detection of 3GCREB carriers by 29.4% (20/68 3GCREB carriers only found using pre-enrichment, p < 0.0001) compared to direct plating approaches (A and C). Moreover, the study demonstrates a minor advantage of stool samples in contrast to rectal swabs in both cases (with and without pre-enrichment). Registration number: DRKS00022520, 24 July 2020.

Background: Many studies reported the influence of infants' gut microbiota on atopic dermatitis (AD) postnatally, yet the role of maternal gut microbiota and plasma metabolites in infants' AD remains largely unexplored.
Methods: Sixty-three pregnant mother-infants were enrolled and followed after childbirth in Guangzhou, China. Demographic information, maternal stool and plasma samples, and records for infants' AD were collected.

Identifying the compound formulae-related xenobiotics in bio-samples is full of challenges. Conventional strategies always exhibit the insufficiencies in overall coverage, analytical efficiency, and degree of automation, and the results highly rely on the personal knowledge and experience. The goal of this work was to establish a software-aided approach, by integrating ultra-high performance liquid chromatography/ion-mobility quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC/IM-QTOF-MS) and in-house high-definition MS library, to enhance the identification of prototypes and metabolites of the compound formulae , taking Sishen formula (SSF) as a template.

Objectives: Diarrhea is a common disease that could threaten the welfare of newborn foals. While there are several forms of foal diarrhea, the etiologies can be considered known pathogenic or non-pathogenic in nature. Moreover, there are likely differences in the composition of microbial populations in the gastrointestinal tracts of foals depending upon the etiology of diarrhea.

Background: To investigate the effects of colonoscopic administration of probiotics on patients with irritable bowel syndrome with predominant diarrhea (IBS-D) by a single-center, randomized-controlled trial.
Methods: Consecutive outpatients at the First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University who met the Rome IV diagnostic criteria for IBS-D (n = 22) and healthy subjects (n = 10) from January 2017 to January 2018 were enrolled. IBS-D patients were randomly divided into either the probiotics or the placebo group.

Mammarenaviruses (genus Mammarenavirus, family Arenaviridae) are rodent-borne zoonotic viruses consisting of 52 viral species, including ten that are pathogenic to humans. Currently, only two endemic mammarenavirus species are known in Europe: the human pathogenic Mammarenavirus choriomeningitidis (LCMV) and the recently discovered hedgehog-origin Mammarenavirus mecsekense (MEMV). In this study, 59 faecal specimens from Northern white-breasted hedgehogs (Erinaceus roumanicus) from different geographic regions in Hungary were investigated for mammarenavirus presence and complete genome characterization using newly designed screening primers by RT-semi-nested PCR and sequencing methods.
