Purpose: The routine perioperative use of opioids has recently been questioned due to opioid-related side effects, which can be potentially harmful in geriatric patients. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of opioid-free anesthesia in geriatric patients undergoing hip surgery.
Patients And Methods: A total of 121 patients, aged 60 years or older, undergoing elective hip surgery were randomized to receive either opioid-free anesthesia with dexmedetomidine and esketamine (OFA group) or balanced anesthesia with opioids (CON group).

Objective: To assess the accuracy of a flash glucose monitoring system (FGMS; FreeStyle Libre 2) in healthy dogs during isoflurane general anesthesia.
Methods: 6 purpose-bred Beagle dogs underwent 3 anesthetic events, 1 week apart, in a randomized crossover study. 1 of 3 mean arterial blood pressure (MAP) states were induced under isoflurane anesthesia (hypotension [MAP, ≤ 60 mm Hg], normotension [MAP, 80 to 120 mm Hg], and hypertension [MAP, ≥ 120 mm Hg]) for 40 minutes.

Background And Objective: The CyberKnife® is a robotic stereotactic radiosurgery system designed for non-invasive treatment of tumor lesions. Some of these procedures are performed under sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the patient and the lesion being treated. The objective of this study is to describe the anesthetic management and postoperative outcomes of patients treated with CyberKnife® radiosurgery at a reference center for neurosurgery in the city of Medellín, Colombia.

Objective: Data were extracted from preexisting published studies and evaluated retrospectively to compare lactate and base deficit values at baseline and posthemorrhage with changes in corresponding hemoglobin (Hb) and Hct measurements to assess any association of such changes with severity of hemorrhage over time. To understand the goal, the objective of this study was to demonstrate statistical changes in laboratory values as described above.
Methods: Previous prospectively designed experiments on 120 mixed-breed dogs were conducted.

Background: Both intraoperative hypotension and excessive fluid administration can lead to detrimental perioperative complications. However, how much fluid is considered excessive and how is intraoperative hypotension related to major postoperative complications?
Methods: We conducted a single-center retrospective cohort study in 6243 patients undergoing complex spine surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation between 2012 and 2022 and studied the relationship between intraoperative net fluid administration and intraoperative hypotension with major postoperative complications. The primary outcome was a collapsed composite of postoperative complications including acute kidney injury (AKI), myocardial infarction (MI), stroke, and intensive care unit (ICU) admissions.
