Race as a prognostic factor of breast mucinous carcinoma.

J Cancer Res Clin Oncol

December 2024

Department of Breast Surgery, National Cancer Center/National Clinical Research Center for Cancer/Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, 100021, China.

Purpose: The rarity of breast mucinous carcinoma (BMC) makes it challenging to study the prognosis of this disease across diverse racial populations. This study aimed to leverage epidemiological data on immigrant populations to elucidate the prognostic differences in BMC patients from various racial/ethnic backgrounds. The goal was to help formulate more personalized clinical practice guidelines for the management of this rare malignancy.

Relationship between fiber quality and follicle density in Ch'aku llamas (Lama glama).

Trop Anim Health Prod

December 2024

Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science, Universidad Nacional Micaela Bastidas de Apurímac, Abancay, Perú.

In the high altitudes of the Andes, llama breeders shear the fiber from their animals, obtaining fleeces for many purposes. Dehairing the fleece of these animals is a viable alternative to improving the quality and value of the fleece. The study examined the attributes of fiber quality and pilose follicle of dehaired and non-dehaired fleece from Ch'aku llamas and the relationship among these characteristics.

Objective: This study investigated the effects of sleep deprivation (SD) on balance after normal sleep, 24 h of SD, and subsequent rest under eyes-open (EO) and eyes-closed (EC) conditions. Our aim was to ascertain whether the reduced efficiency of balance control following SD is generalized or selective.

Method: Nineteen participants (12 females, 7 males) completed the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI).

The barley stripe mosaic virus (BSMV) uses its genomic RNA components (alpha, beta, and gamma) as an efficient method for studying gene functions. It is a newly developed method that utilizes gene transcript suppression to determine the role of plant genes. BSMV derived from virus induced gene silencing (VIGS) is capable of infecting various key farming crops like barley, wheat, rice, corn, and oats.

December 2024

Faculty of Science and Technology, Seikei University, 3-3-1 Kichijoji-Kitamachi, Musashino, Tokyo, 180-8633, Japan.

Methods that facilitate molecular identification and imaging are required to evaluate drug penetration into tissues. Time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS), which has high spatial resolution and allows 3D distribution imaging of organic materials, is suitable for this purpose. However, the complexity of ToF-SIMS data, which includes nonlinear factors, makes interpretation challenging.
