Environmental tracers are chemical species that move with a fluid and allow us to understand its origin and material transport properties. DNA-based materials have been proposed and used for tracing due to their potential for multitracing with high specificity and sensitivity. For large-scale applications of this new material it is of interest to understand its impact on the environment. We therefore assessed the ecotoxicity of sub-micron silica particles with and without encapsulated DNA in the context of surface and underground tracing of natural waterflows using standard ecotoxicity assays according to ISO standards. Acute toxicity tests were performed with (48 h), showing no effect on mobility at tracer concentrations below 300 ppm. Chronic ecotoxicological potential was tested with (green algae) (72 h) and species (7 d) with no effect observed at realistic exposure scenario concentrations for both silica particles with and without encapsulated DNA. These results suggest that large-scale environmental tracing with DNA-tagged silica particles in the given exposure scenarios has a low impact on aquatic species with low trophic levels such as select algae and planktonic crustaceans.

Objectives: This study aimed to assess the impact of incorporating glass ionomer fillers of varying sizes on fluoride release, antiplaque properties, and the abrasive effects of toothpaste.
Materials And Methods: In this laboratory study, three toothpaste samples containing glass ionomer filler particles (0.5, 5 µm, and a hybrid combination of equal proportions of both fillers) were tested, along with a base toothpaste without fillers or fluoride and a commercial toothpaste (Colgate Total) as controls.

This study presents a novel composite superabsorbent hydrogel (SAH) synthesized from nanosilica and polyacrylic acid, demonstrating exceptional efficacy in removing Congo Red dye from wastewater. Utilizing a fast concentration gradient method, we achieved the synthesis of nanosilica with a high specific surface area of 380 m/g, a total pore volume of 0.81 cm/g, and a mean pore diameter of 17 nm.

Nanomaterial-mediated macrophage immune response plays a crucial role in bone regeneration microenvironment. Mesoporous silica nanoparticles are widely used as nano-drug carriers, imaging agents, and bioactivity regulators for potential tissue regeneration. It is known that surface topography features of nanomaterials play an important regulatory role in immune response.

To investigate the influence of the fractured rock-concrete interface on the mechanical response of the rock mass and engineering, the mechanical properties and energy evolution of granite-concrete composite specimens with 16 different fracture inclinations were examined through uniaxial compression particle flow simulation. The results show that when the relative area is constant, the larger the fracture dip angle is, the compressive strength of the composite body presents a similar "peak" type change; the dip angle appears to have the maximum value at 60 o and 90o and the minimum value at 0 o and 30 o, while the peak elastic modulus presents a "waterfall" type change, and the maximum value appears at 90o. The crack types were classified as shear cracks, tensile cracks, secondary shear cracks, secondary tensile cracks, shear-dominated mixed cracks, and tension-dominated mixed cracks.

In a recent paper, we introduced the concept of structured microgroove columns as a potential solution to obtain perfectly ordered particle beds for nano- and micro-LC. In this concept, spherical particles are either individually positioned (single layer column) or stacked (multilayer column) in a series of interconnected micromachined pockets. After introducing a suitable method to fill the columns efficiently in a one-particle-per-pocket mode, the present contribution addresses the issue of sealing the filled columns and reports on the first flow tests conducted in a microgroove column device.
