A case of Rickettsia sibirica subspecies sibirica BJ-90 infection in China was identified by metagenomic analysis of an eschar biopsy specimen and confirmed by nested PCR. Seroprevalence of spotted fever group Rickettsia was ≈17.4% among the local population. This report highlights the threat of rickettsioses to public health in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

The recently discovered metagenomic urethanases UMG-SP1, UMG-SP2, and UMG-SP3 have emerged as promising tools to establish a bio-based recycling approach for polyurethane (PU) waste. These enzymes are capable of hydrolyzing urethane bonds in low molecular weight dicarbamates as well as in thermoplastic PU and the amide bond in polyamide employing a Ser-Ser -Lys triad for catalysis, similar to members of the amidase signature protein superfamily. Understanding the catalytic mechanism of these urethanases is crucial for enhancing their enzymatic activity and improving PU bio-recycling processes.

Background: Polymicrobial pulmonary infections, common in immunocompromised patients, often manifest more severe symptoms than monomicrobial infections. Clinical diagnosis delays may lead to mortality, emphasizing the importance of fast and accurate diagnosis for these patients. Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS), as an unbiased method capable of detecting all microbes, is a valuable tool to identify pathogens, particularly in cases where infections are difficult to diagnosis using conventional methods.

Background: Few large microbiome studies on Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia (AD/ADRD) have been conducted, especially among US Latinos. We conducted a study within the Study of Latinos‐ Investigation of Neurocognitive Aging (SOL‐INCA) cohort to examine the role of the gut microbiota in cognitive function.
Methods: We analyzed the fecal metagenomes of 2,470 SOL‐INCA participants to, cross‐sectionally, identify microbial taxonomic and functional features associated with cognitive function.

Applications of metabolomics in pharmacology are starting to enable a Systems Pharmacology approach, where the outcome of a treatment is considered to evolve from effects on complex molecular networks, enabling insights into response variations.
