Pediatric patients show various extracardiac complications after cardiovascular surgery, and radiography and ultrasound are routinely performed in the intensive care unit to detect and evaluate these complications. This review presents images of these complications, sonographic approach, and timing of occurrence that are categorized based on their extracardiac locations and include complications pertaining to the central nervous system, mediastinum, thorax and lung parenchyma, diaphragm, liver and biliary system, and kidney along with pleural effusion and iatrogenic complications. This pictorial review will make it easier for medical doctors in intensive care units to identify and manage various extracardiac complications in pediatric patients after cardiovascular surgery.

We sought to examine the impact of legislative change on TOP for major congenital heart disease (CHD) and its effect on parental decision-making regarding the options of complex surgery, TOP, or palliative perinatal care.
Methods: This was a trend analysis of second-trimester TOP for major CHD before and after the law reforms relating to pregnancy termination in Ireland.

Introduction: Early detection of cardiac sarcoidosis (CS) is crucial due to its association with severe complications such as ventricular arrhythmias, heart failure, and sudden cardiac death. Advanced imaging techniques like cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) and 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (FDG-PET/CT) are effective in detecting CS but not easily accessible. The optimal method for selecting patients for advanced screening remains uncertain.

Cardiac tamponade is a condition with impaired cardiac function by acute fluid accumulation in the pericardium. Extracardiac masses, such as a mediastinal hematoma, can also cause cardiac tamponade. We report a case of impending extrapericardial cardiac tamponade secondary to traumatic sternal fracture with expanding mediastinal hematoma.

Objectives: We sought to examine the relative importance of surgical lesion complexity versus the presence of genetic/syndromic/extracardiac anomalies (GSAs) in determining survival, morbidity or need for reinterventions following repair for aortic arch hypoplasia.
Methods: A single-centre, retrospective cohort study of infants undergoing biventricular aortic arch repair sternotomy from 2010 to 2021 was conducted. Survival analysis was performed using Kaplan-Meier methods, with additional Bayesian survival modelling for subgroups.
