Kartagener syndrome (KS) is a rare congenital disorder, characterized by sinusitis, bronchiectasis and situs inversus. Lung transplantation is an effective treatment for end-stage lung failure, but dextrocardia and differences between hilar structures and pulmonary lobes require adjustments to conventional surgical technique. We present a case of a double-lung transplant without extracorporeal oxygenation in a 48-year-old male patient with KS.

Intrarenal hemangiomas lack concise clinicopathologic information, due to the predominance of single case reports and inclusion of other vascular neoplasms and hemangiomas of perirenal, hilar, and renal vein origin. Herein, in this multi-institutional study we evaluate clinicopathologic features of 39 intrarenal hemangiomas. The median age was 62 years (range = 27-94 years; 2:1 male to female ratio), with left-sided predominance (left = 21, right = 13; one case was bilateral).

Background: Postoperative cerebral infarction, a serious complication of surgery, is occasionally experienced with pulmonary vein stump thrombosis (PVST), which is frequently observed after left upper lobectomy (LUL). Herein, we prospectively investigated whether PVST could be safely prevented by intrapericardial ligation of the superior pulmonary vein (SPV) to shorten the SPV stump during LUL.
Methods: In a consecutive 21 patients who underwent LUL, we ligated the proximal intrapericardial SPV with 1-0 silk suture and divided the distal hilar SPV by an automatic stapling device.

The genomic fusions of the anaplastic lymphoma kinase () gene have been widely recognized as effective therapeutic targets for non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). The Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University has treated 2 NSCLC patients with 2 distinct novel gene fusions. Case 1 was a 55-year-old male with a solid nodule located in the right hilar lobe on enhanced CT scan.
