•  This study has elucidated the mechanism of development of the storeyed cambial structure of Wisteria floribunda, a species characterised by very quick and early establishment of storeyed structure from a nonstoreyed procambium in close vicinity of the pith. •  Rearrangement of the cambial cells was studied in serial tangential longitudinal sections of axial wood parenchyma. •  The mechanism of cell rearrangement was found to involve not only the occurrence of anticlinal cell divisions, but also a concomitant intrusive growth of the ends of cambial cells of one cell packet along the tangential walls of cells of the neighbouring packet. During the process, the fusiform initials changed their position along the stem axis and became arranged in regular storeys. New positions of cells were thus achieved through first the vertical intrusion of cell ends between the tangential walls of neighbouring cells, and second the unequal periclinal cell divisions. •  The concept that radial longitudinal divisions of the fusiform initials are the main cause of the formation of storeyed structure of the cambium has been critically examined.

Congenital amegakaryocytic thrombocytopenia (CAMT) is a rare, genetic, autosomal recessive disorder characterized by severe thrombocytopenia, due to inefficient bone marrow megakaryopoiesis eventually leading to aplasia. Majority of the cases are due to homozygous or compound heterozygous mutations in MPL gene encoding for thrombopoietin (THPO) receptor protein. CAMT can be diagnosed at early phase of life, with major complication of transfusion dependency and hematopoietic transplantation as only curative treatment.

Jung first recounted his dream of the multi-storeyed house in the 1925 seminars to illustrate the concept of the collective unconscious and explain the influence of phylogeny on his split with Freud. However, his telling the story of the dream belies a cryptomnesic influence of the early writings of psychoanalysis because Josef Breuer used a similar image to illustrate the structure of the psyche which Edouard Claparède associated with a phylogenetic inheritance. When telling the story of the dream, Jung misrepresented Freud's position, creating the impression of there being a bigger difference between their theories than was actually the case, and giving the dream a fictional significance for the breakdown of their relationship.

Upon long-term exposure, the radioactive gas radon-222 and its decay products in increased doses adversely affect human health. Since the human being spends about 65% of his time in the buildings, it is necessary to evaluate air radiation purity in the rooms, which can be obtained by making a sanitary radiological survey of residential buildings. The scope of the rooms in many-storeyed buildings to be examined can be considerably reduced if the regularities in radon distribution are known.

Fire fighters: a study of stress and coping.

Fifty-eight non-professional fire fighters, 91% of all firefighters from different industries who participated in a hotel fire rescue operation, were investigated by means of a structured self-report questionnaire about their stress experience during and after the rescue action. Together with 57 professional fire fighters, they participated in rescuing hotel guests confined for as much as three hours in a 12 storeyed hotel building on fire. Fourteen persons (11%) died, 114 guests survived.
