Simultaneous measurements of cellular responses and extracellular field potentials as well as extracellular Ca2+ concentration [( Ca2+]0) were performed in the dentate gyrus granule cell layer during paired pulse stimulation of the lateral perforant path at resting [Ca2+]o and during washout of calcium. At resting [Ca2+]o the second response to a paired stimulus was smaller than the first response. This frequency habituation reversed into frequency potentiation (second response larger than the first one) during lowering of [Ca2+]o at about the same time when a late presumed inhibitory postsynaptic potential (IPSP) was abolished. This suggests that a slow inhibition can account for part of frequency habituation in the dentate gyrus.

This review discusses the properties of strongly oxidizing radicals in organic and aqueous media and highlights the challenges in obtaining accurate values of their reduction potentials. Transient redox equilibrium methods based on the use of strong photooxidants or initiated by pulse radiolysis are shown to provide versatile approaches for decoupling electron transfer reactions from follow-up reactivity of unstable radical species, resulting in accurate values of reduction potentials of very positive couples, including some solvent radical cations. We also show that correlations of reduction potentials with Hammett ∑+p parameters, as well as gas phase ionization potentials, can be used to estimate the redox properties of unknown couples within a homologous series of compounds.

SrFeO (SFO) offers a topotactic phase transformation between an insulating brownmillerite SrFeO (BM-SFO) phase and a conductive perovskite SrFeO (PV-SFO) phase, making it a competitive candidate for use in resistive memory and neuromorphic computing. However, most of existing SFO-based memristors are nonvolatile devices which struggle to achieve short-term synaptic plasticity (STP). To address this issue and realize STP, we propose to leverage ferroelectric polarization to effectively draw ions across the interface so that the PV-SFO conductive filaments (CFs) can be ruptured in absence of an external field.

However, the intrinsic limitations of silica-based standard single-mode fiber (SMF) will ultimately be insufficient to meet these escalating demands. The nested antiresonant nodeless fiber (NANF), a newly designed hollow-core fiber, has garnered significant attention as a potential solution to these challenges.

Significant progress has been made in the last two decades in producing small (<2μm), high-purity, and low-adsorption particles, columns and system hardware, for ultra-high pressure liquid chromatography (UHPLC). Simultaneously, the recent rapid expansion of cell and gene therapies for treating diseases necessitates novel analytical technologies for analyzing large (>2 kbp) plasmid double-stranded (ds) DNA (which encodes for the in vitro transcription (IVT) of single-stranded (ss) mRNA therapeutics) and dsRNAs (related to IVT production impurities) biopolymers. In this context, slalom chromatography (SC), a retention mode co-discovered in 1988, is being revitalized using the most advanced column technologies for improved determination of the critical quality attributes (CQAs) of such new therapeutics.

Objective: Pulse parameter controllable transcranial magnetic stimulation (cTMS) devices with fully-controlled semiconductor switches are increasingly being developed, but the primary waveform they generate is often accompanied by ringing, which is due to the resonance between the stimulation coil inductance and the snubber capacitors paired with the switches at the end of the pulse. This study provides a ringing suppression design method to effectively suppress it and reduce its impact on stimulation efficacy.
Methods: A three-pronged design method is developed to suppress the ringing at its source.
