Objective: To compare Ostmann's fat pad (OFP) size between healthy ears and ears with chronic otitis media with cholesteatoma (COMwC) in children, to assess its role in the disease.
Methods: MRI scans of 29 children with unilateral COMwC with conductive hearing loss were used to measure OFP, represented by the maximal diameter of the high intensity area medial to the tensor veli palatini muscle (TVP): M1. A reference diameter was defined from the medial border of OFP reaching the medial border of the medial pterygoid muscle: M2. Values of M1, M2 and the ratio of M1:M2 were compared between the healthy and pathological ear in each patient.
Results: No difference in OFP size was observed between healthy (H) ears (mean M1H:M2H ratio 0.72 ± 2.28) compared to ears with COMwC pathology (P) (mean M1P:M2P ratio .68 ± 1.57; P = .943) in children, suggesting that OFP size abnormalities do not have a role in pediatric COMwC.
Conclusion: OFP size was not correlated to the development of unilateral COMwC in children.

The present study has been designed to fabricate fungal endophyte-assisted gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and elucidate their anti-breast cancer potential. The aqueous extract of fungal endophyte(PO), associated with the medicinal plant, was used for the fabrication of AuNPs (POAuNPs). Physico-chemical characterization using Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared, X-ray diffraction, Dynamic light scattering, Zeta potential, Transmission electron microscopy and Field emission scanning electron microscopy analysis revealed stable, uniform distribution, spherical shape and crystalline nature of POAuNPs with a size range of 3-46 nm.

Rubber modified asphalt (RMA) is a promising avenue for recycling waste tires but faces concerns over hazardous fumes emission during production and construction. This study employs a specialized apparatus to analyze RMA's emission behavior, focusing on crumb rubber size variations under thermal conditions. Ozone Formation Potential (OFP) and Secondary Organic Aerosol Formation Potential (SOAFP) were quantified to evaluate the environmental burden.

We observed a unique interpillar gap-related surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) behavior of-aminothiophenol (PATP) molecules from periodic TiOnanopillar arrays with three gap sizes of 191, 297 and 401 nm, which is completely different from that on Ag and Ni nanopillar arrays. Especially, the gap-size-dependent charge-transfer (CT) resonance enhancement from TiO/Ni has been indicated through comparisons of variation trend of SERS intensities with inter-pillar gap size between TiO/Ni and Ag/TiO/Ni as well as Ni nanoarrays, and been confirmed by spectra of ultraviolet-visible absorption and photoluminescence. Results demonstrate that the CT resonance enhancement is more susceptible to the change of the gap size compared with the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) enhancement in TiO/Ni nanoarrays.

In order to understand the emission characteristics of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the flue gas under the mixed combustion of biomass, the study on the emission characteristics of VOCs in the flue gas was carried out on a 58 MW circulating fluidized bed (CFB) unit. The results show that the co-firing of biomass can significantly reduce the emissions of VOCs and NO and SO. Changes in blended fuel particle size and combustion temperature reduce VOCs emissions.
