Goal of sustainable carbon neutral economy can be achieved by designing an efficient CO reduction system to generate biofuels, in particular, by mimicking the mechanism of natural photosynthesis using semiconducting nanomaterials interfaced with electroactive bacteria (EAB) in a photosynthetic microbial electrosynthesis (PMES) system. This review paper presents an overview of the recent advancements in the biohybrid photoanode and photocathode materials. We discuss the reaction mechanism observed at photoanode and photocathode to enhance our understanding on the solar driven MES. We extend the discussion by showcasing the potential activity of EABs toward high selectivity and production rates for desirable products by manipulating their genomic sequence. Additionally, the critical challenges associated in scaling up the PMES system including the strategies for diminution of reactive oxygen species, low solubility of CO in the typical electrolytes, low selectivity of product species are presented along with the suggestions of alternative strategies to achieve economically viable generation of (bio)commodities.

Postmenopause is the 12-month absence of menstrual periods, characterized by decreased estrogen and progesterone levels, leading to physical and psychological alterations such as hot flashes, mood swings, sleep disruptions, and skin changes. Present postmenopausal treatments include hormone replacement therapy, non-hormonal drugs, lifestyle modifications, vaginal estrogen therapy, bone health treatments, and alternative therapies. Advanced drug delivery systems (ADDSs) are essential in managing postmenopausal effects (PMEs), offering targeted and controlled delivery to alleviate symptoms and improve overall health.

Total PME activity in reproductive tissues was related to haplotypes at maize cross incompatibility loci, suggesting that these loci function by controlling PME activity. In maize, the pollination outcome depends on the haplotypes of the interacting male gametophyte (germinated pollen) and female sporophyte (silk) at several cross-incompatibility loci. Functional alleles (-S haplotypes) of the cross-incompatibility loci Ga1 and Ga2, both encode two pectin methylesterases (PMEs), one that is expressed in silk and the other in pollen.

Advances in the field of frustrated Lewis pair (FLP) chemistry have led to the discovery of radical pairs, obtained by a single-electron transfer (SET) from the Lewis base to the Lewis acid. Radical pairs are intriguing for their potential to enable cooperative activation of challenging substrates (, CH, N) in a homolytic fashion, as well as the exploration of novel radical reactions. In this review, we will cover the two known mechanisms of SET in FLPs-thermal and photoinduced-along with methods (, CV, DFT, UV-vis) to predict the mechanism and to characterise the involved electron donors and acceptors.

Pectin methylesterases (PMEs) modify homogalacturonan's chemistry and play a key role in regulating primary cell wall mechanical properties. Here, we report on Arabidopsis AtPME2, which we found to be highly expressed during lateral root emergence and dark-grown hypocotyl elongation. We showed that dark-grown hypocotyl elongation was reduced in knock-out mutant lines as compared to the control.

Herein, we present the formation of transient radical ion pairs (RIPs) by single-electron transfer (SET) in phosphine-quinone systems and explore their potential for the activation of C-H bonds. PMes (Mes=2,4,6-Me C H ) reacts with DDQ (2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone) with formation of the P-O bonded zwitterionic adduct Mes P-DDQ (1), while the reaction with the sterically more crowded PTip (Tip=2,4,6-iPr C H ) afforded C-H bond activation product Tip P(H)(2-[CMe (DDQ)]-4,6-iPr -C H ) (2). UV/Vis and EPR spectroscopic studies showed that the latter reaction proceeds via initial SET, forming RIP [PTip ]⋅ [DDQ]⋅ , and subsequent homolytic C-H bond activation, which was supported by DFT calculations.
