This paper summarizes the main findings of a study which aimed to examine the electrochemical oxidation of homovanillic acid (HVA), the final metabolite of dopamine. A pencil graphite electrode (PGE) was used as working electrode and the measurements were performed by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The type and the composition of the graphite leads used as PGE, the pH of the supporting electrolyte, as well as the scan rates were optimized by CV.

New therapeutic agents developed for treating neurological disorders are often tested successfully on rodents. Testing in an appropriate large animal model where there is longer lifespan and comparable brain size to humans should improve translational success and is frequently expected by regulatory bodies. In this project, we aimed to establish a novel sheep model of Parkinson's disease as a large-brained experimental model for translational research.

Effort-based decision-making is particularly relevant to psychiatric conditions where motivation deficits are prominent features. Despite its clinical significance, the neurochemical mechanisms of this cognitive process remain unclarified. This study explores the impact of serotonin synthesis inhibition (PCPA) and modulation of serotonin release and 5-HT1A receptor agonism (8-OH-DPAT) on effort-based decision-making in rats.

Background: Septic encephalopathy is frequent but its pathophysiology is enigmatic. We studied expression of neurotransmitters, inflammation and integrity of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) in several brain regions during abdominal sepsis. We compared mice with either lethal or surviving phenotype in the first 4 sepsis days.
