Purpose: This study aimed to assess the levels and sources of noise in the emergency intensive care unit (EICU) of an emergency department and investigate their effects on the sleep quality of conscious patients.

Methods: A study was conducted on patients admitted to the EICU from December 2020 to December 2023. They were categorised according to their sleep quality with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index.

Background: Sleep disturbance is common and distressing for people with dementia, with no known safe, effective treatments. We previously developed and delivered DREAMS-START (Dementia RElAted Manual for Sleep; STrAtegies for RelaTives), a multimodal non-pharmacological intervention, and demonstrated feasibility and acceptability. This randomised controlled trial (RCT) aimed to establish whether DREAMS-START is clinically-effective in reducing sleep disturbances in people with dementia at home after 8 months compared to usual care.

Background: BACE inhibitors, while effective in lowering amyloid-beta production, have been associated with mild cognitive worsening in clinical trials. Additional treatment-related adverse events reported in multiple clinical trials were sleep disturbances and insomnia. The purpose of this study is to determine if sleep disturbances occur in mice receiving BACE inhibitor, if sleep disturbances correlate with cognitive impairment, and the mechanism by which this may occur.

Introduction: While the fact that visual stimuli synthesized by Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) may evoke emotional reactions is documented, the precise mechanisms that connect the strength and type of such reactions with the ways of how ANNs are used to synthesize visual stimuli are yet to be discovered. Understanding these mechanisms allows for designing methods that synthesize images attenuating or enhancing selected emotional states, which may provide unobtrusive and widely-applicable treatment of mental dysfunctions and disorders.

Methods: The Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), a type of ANN used in computer vision tasks which models the ways humans solve visual tasks, was applied to synthesize ("dream" or "hallucinate") images with no semantic content to maximize activations of neurons in precisely-selected layers in the CNN.

Department of Clinical Neurophysiology, Danish Center for Sleep Medicine, Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen, Denmark.

Sleep disturbances are widely reported in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Although Dream Enactment Behaviour (DEB) has long been associated with PTSD, its high prevalence has only recently been recognized, sparking discussions about the classification of trauma-related sleep disorders. The impact of DEB on treatment outcomes in PTSD remains unexplored.
