As Peru is endemic to HTLV-1, it is important to know the reliability of the most used screening trademarks in our country. In the present study, we evaluated two brands of ELISA (Biokit and Wantai) for the detection of antibodies against HTLV-1/2 against Peruvian samples. Both brands were evaluated against 242 sera: 123 positive for HTLV-1 and 119 negative for HTLV-1 (Reference: Immunoblot). We estimated diagnostic accuracy parameters. The sensitivity, specificity, PPV, NPV and validity index of Biokit were: 100%, 93.2%, 93.8%, 100%, 96.6%; respectively and Wantai were 99.1% for all parameters. We conclude that the Biokit brand is the most suitable for use in the National Reference Laboratory of Sexually Transmitted Viruses HIV/AIDS, Peru.

Introduction: Accurate measurement is critical for understanding the population health impact of nicotine pouches, yet precise, standardized measures of nicotine pouch use are lacking, possibly driving disparate prevalence estimates across studies. We implemented a split sample survey experiment to assess the impact of including a product image when asking about nicotine pouches.
Methods: We randomized an online sample of US adults ages 18-45 (N=2,130) recruited through the February 2023 wave of the Rutgers Omnibus Study to view either a text-only or text-plus-image description of oral nicotine pouches before being asked about awareness of the products.

Background: Isolated subsegmental pulmonary embolism (issPE) is a commonly encountered diagnosis. Although the International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-10 codes are used for research, their validity for identifying issPE is unknown. Moreover, issPE diagnosis is challenging, and the findings from radiology reports may conflict with those from expert radiologists.

Vitamin C is an antioxidant and is essential for immune function and infection resistance. Supplementation is necessary when a sufficient amount of vitamin C is not obtained through the diet. Alternative formulations of vitamin C may enhance its bioavailability and retention over traditional ascorbic acid.

This study evaluated the influence of cycle computers on the accuracy of power and cadence data. The research was divided into three phases: (1) a graded exercise test (GXT) at different constant loads to record power and cadence data; (2) a self-paced effort lasting 1 min to measure mean maximal power output (MMP); and (3) a short all-out effort. Eight cyclists completed the GXT, ten participated in the 1-min test, and thirty participated in the sprint effort.

Lipid peroxidation is a major process that determines the quality of various oil samples during their use and storage, in which the primary products are hydroperoxides (HP'). HP' are very stable compounds at ambient conditions and are harmful to human health. Therefore, the evaluation of the degree of oil oxidation is an excellent tool for ensuring food safety.
