With the aim of developing a new fluorescence dye with enhanced photophysical properties, this study describes the modification of the 2-phenylsulfanylhydroquinone dimer to realize a new bioimaging molecule. The characteristics of the dimer were advanced by introducing tetraethylene glycol side chains to provide sufficient water solubility and a tether consisting of an -hydroxysuccinimide-terminated C6-carbon chain to attach bioactive molecules. Two derivatives containing two or three tetraethylene glycol side chains were designed and prepared, and the latter showed sufficient water solubility for biochemical applications. Both compounds exhibited similar photophysical properties and blue fluorescence under UV light irradiation. The dye containing three tetraethylene glycol units reacted with bovine serum albumin in water to give fluorescent derivatives.

People spend about 90% of their day indoors and are at increased risk of exposure to metal elements (MEs), water-soluble ions (WSIs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) contained in indoor PM. Therefore, firstly this study investigated indoor PM pollution to explore the distribution characteristics of MEs, WSIs and PAHs. Secondly, the carcinogenic risk of MEs and PAH to the population was analyzed using health risk assessment models.

Objective: This study investigated the use of oral rinse solutions formulated with boron-containing compounds, known for their antibacterial activity, as an alternative to chlorhexidine (CHX).
Material And Method: Boron nitride (BN), boric acid (BA) and sodium borate (SB) were used in the study. BN was used in nanosuspension (BN-NS) due to its low solubility in water.

Metal ions, which are naturally occurring in food, soil, and water, are present in every part of the environment. Therefore, it is imperative to identify those using accessible and economical methods. In this study, a novel two-step chemical modification process for pullulan, a natural polymer, is presented.

Combined cold and high moisture stress (CHS) is a prevalent abiotic stress during maize sowing in northeast China, severely affecting the growth of seedlings and seed germination. However, the mechanism underlying seed growth responses to CHS remains unclear. We used Jidan441 (JD441, CHS-resistant) and Jidan558 (JD558, CHS-sensitive) as experimental materials.

Ocular injury and infection are significant causes of vision impairment and blindness globally. Effective treatment is, however, challenging due to the physical barrier of the cornea, which restricts drug penetration in the eye, as well as the presence of eye injury that necessitates continuous delivery of growth factors on the ocular surface for cornea healing. Here, we introduce a transformative wearable corneal microneedle (MN) patch designed for efficient therapy of ocular injury and infection.
