We have developed a two-dimensional (2D) liquid-crystalline (LC) nanostructured water-treatment membrane showing high virus rejection ability (over 99.99997% for bacteriophage Qβ) and improved water permeation. Polymerizable gemini amphiphiles have been designed and synthesized. They have H-shaped gemini-type structures of thermotropic smectic liquid crystals composed of cationic imidazolium moieties. One of the gemini amphiphiles shows a smectic A phase with an interdigitated bilayer structure. A cross-linked self-standing 2D nanostructured polymer film has been obtained by in situ photopolymerization of the gemini amphiphile in the smectic phase. The length of linkers in gemini amphiphiles affects the formation of LC phases. The 2D nanostructured membrane also showed selective salt rejection.

Efficient catalytic systems for various organic transformations in green solvents, especially water, are in great demand. Catalytically active bis-NHC complexes of palladium(II) based on imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic acid with different lipophilicities were obtained. The synthesis of imidazolium salts was complicated by the formation of side products of nucleophilic substitution by iodide ions in the Menshutkin reaction involving alkyl iodides, which was successfully resolved by using alkyl tosylates.

Herein, we report a straightforward synthesis of azaylide-based gemini amphiphiles using bis(diphenylphosphino)alkanes the Staudinger reaction. The prepared gemini amphiphiles exhibited an even-odd effect in their self-assembly behavior depending on the length of the alkyl linkers. Furthermore, the assembled micelles had high host capability toward hydrophobic guests in water.

Gemini surfactants have become the research focus of novel excellent inhibitors because of their special structure (two amphiphilic moieties covalently connected at head group by a spacer) and excellent surface properties. It is proved by theoretical calculations that 1, 3-bis (dodecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride) propane (BDDACP) molecules can perform electron transfer with Fe (110). And it has a small fraction free volume, thus greatly reducing the diffusion and migration degree of corrosive particles.

We have prepared a novel assembly with copper nanoclusters (CuNCs) and imidazolium-based gemini surfactants (different chain lengths). These novel mimic enzymes formed through the assembly of nanocluster-gemini surfactants have been utilized in creating colorimetric sensors to detect biomolecules. Yet, understanding the method for detecting glutathione (GSH) and its sensing mechanism using this specific assembly-based colorimetric sensor poses a significant challenge.

Introduction: Gemini surfactants (GS) are an elite class of amphiphilic molecules that have shown up as a potential candidate in the field of drug delivery because of their exceptional physicochemical properties. They comprise two hydrophilic headgroups connected by an adaptable spacer and hydrophobic tails that has shown promising results in delivering different therapeutic agents to cancer cells at preclinical level. However further studies are in demand to unlock the full potential of GS in this field.
