Non-reciprocal optical components are indispensable in optical applications, and their realization without any magnetic field has attracted increasing research interest in photonics. Exciting experimental progress has been achieved by either introducing spatial-temporal modulation of the optical medium or combining Kerr-type optical nonlinearity with spatial asymmetry in photonic structures. However, extra driving fields are required for the first approach, while the isolation of noise and the transmission of the signal cannot be simultaneously achieved for the other approach.

Background: Nucleic acid extraction (NAE) is essential in molecular diagnostics, genetic engineering, and DNA sequencing. While advances in switching valve-assisted, self-contained microfluidic (SM) cartridges have improved the NAE processes, challenges persist in streamlining workflows, reducing processing times, and enhancing multi-target detection. Achieving these objectives requires precise control of on-chip fluid dynamics and efficient transfer of nucleic acid solutions (NAS) to detection areas.

Prior research has shown the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) is important for evaluating options involving reward-predictive information. Here we studied the role of ACC in information choices using optical inhibition to evaluate the contribution of this region during specific epochs of decision making.

Object lifting is often categorized into squat and stoop techniques, with the former believed to protect the back by maintaining a neutral spine, and the latter considered harmful due to spinal flexion. Despite the widespread promotion of these beliefs, there is no evidence to support such dichotomy, as spinal flexion is not conclusively linked to low back pain. This study aimed to investigate intervertebral disc deformation in the lower lumbar spine during squat and stoop lifting using indwelling bone pins.
