In the summer of 2018, specimens of a population were extracted from a maize root sample collected near Stampriet, Namibia. This population was identified as and is described and illustrated based on its morphological, morphometric, and molecular characteristics. To our knowledge, this is the first report . from maize roots. Females of the population had a mean body and stylet length of 1,100 µm and 36 µm, respectively. Esophagus with three nuclei in three pharyngeal glands. Lateral field reduced, ranging from a very faint line to just breaks in striae. The males were shorter than the females with a mean body length of 925 µm and the stylet slightly shorter, with a mean length of 34 µm. Phylogenetic analyses using partial sequences of 18 S and the expansion fragment D2-D3 of 28 S rDNA genes showed the close relation of this species and . This Namibian population of is the first species from Africa to be molecularly characterized.

Heat-killed lactobacilli seem to have protective effects against oxidative stress and neurotoxicity. This study aimed to evaluate the antioxidant properties of specific heat-killed lactobacilli extracts and determine their neuroprotective effects against the neurotoxicity induced by blood plasma from people with multiple sclerosis (MS). The antioxidant activity of the three heat-killed lactobacilli was measured using the DPPH assay.

The Amazon basin is the world's largest hydrographic basin, in terms of both its total area and its species diversity, with more than 2,700 species of fish. Despite this diversity, the data available on the fish fauna of the Amazon basin are still relatively scant and incomplete, in particular from the streams and floodplain lakes of the lower Amazon, which may contain a large proportion of the still undescribed species of the basin. Many of these species are expected to be of interest to the ornamental fish market.

Compromised male reproductive health, including reduced testosterone and sperm count, is one of the long COVID symptoms in individuals recovering from mild-severe disease. COVID-19 patients display testicular injury in the acute stage and altered serum fertility markers in the recovery phase, however, long-term implications on the testis remain unknown. This study characterized the consequences of SARS-CoV-2 on testis function.

We describe the novel occurrence of a adenocarcinoma involving the trachea, with distinct solid and glandular components, in a 34-year-old patient. We illustrate its morphological and immunophenotypic features and describe the molecular finding of an EWSR1::BEND2 gene fusion detected by next-generation sequencing (NGS). We discuss the findings in comparison to BEND2-fusion associated neoplasms reported in the head and neck region in the literature to date.

Purpose: The objective of the study was to establish the prevalence of Sarcocystis (Apicomplexa, Sarcocystidae) in brown rats from Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, Kuwait, and to describe detected parasites using morphological and DNA analysis methods.
Methods: Ninety-eight brown rats (Rattus norvegicus) were examined for Sarcocystis spp. Obtained sarcocysts were investigated using light microscopy and electron microscopy.
