Here, we aimed to understand if older adults (OA) use a unique motor plan that is detrimental to endpoint control. We performed two experiments that used ankle ballistic contractions that reversed at the target. In Experiment 1, eight young adults (YA; 27.1 ± 4.2) and eight OA (73.3 ± 4.5) aimed to perform an ankle dorsiflexion-plantarflexion movement that reversed at 9° in 180 ms (target). We found that the coordination pattern (motor plan) differed for the two groups. OA used significantly greater soleus (SOL) activity to reverse the ankle movement than YA and exhibited greater tibialis anterior (TA) muscle activity variability (p < 0.05). OA exhibited worse endpoint control than YA, which associated with the exacerbated TA variability (R > 0.2; p < 0.01). Experiment 2 aimed to confirm that the OA motor plan was detrimental to endpoint control. Fifteen YA (20.5 ± 1.4) performed an ankle dorsiflexion-plantarflexion contraction that reversed at 30% MVC in 160 ms by using either a pattern that mimicked OA (High SOL) or YA (Low SOL). With the High SOL coordination pattern, YA exhibited impaired endpoint control and greater TA activation variability. These findings provide strong evidence that OA select a unique motor plan that is detrimental to endpoint control.

Objectives: overweight and other cardiovascular risk factors are known contributors to disability accrual in Multiple Sclerosis (MS). We aimed to explore the impact of three hypocaloric dietetic patterns, based on the Mediterranean diet, on cardiovascular risk and clinical status in overweight persons with MS (pwMS).
Material And Methods: overweight pwMS (body mass index-BMI ≥25 kg/m) were prospectively enrolled, randomly allocated to three hypocaloric dietetic plans differing in macronutrients composition (carbohydrates/proteins/lipids: diet A 65 %/15 %/20 %; diet B 35 %/25 %/40 %; diet C 50 %/20 %/30 %) and followed-up for 1 year (6 months of dietetic intervention + 6 months of observation).

Prior work highlighted that procrastination and impulsivity shared a common neuroanatomical basis in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, implying a tight relationship between these traits. However, theorists hold that procrastination is motivated by avoiding aversiveness, while impulsivity is driven by approaching immediate pleasure. Hence, exploring the common and distinct neural basis underlying procrastination and impulsivity through functional neuroimaging becomes imperative.

This paper proposes an adaptive real-time tillage depth control system for electric rotary tillers, based on Linear Active Disturbance Rejection Control (LADRC), to improve tillage depth accuracy in tea garden intercropping with soybeans. The tillage depth control system comprises a body posture sensor, a control unit, and a hybrid stepper motor, integrating sensor data to drive the motor and achieve precise depth control. Real-time displacement sensor signals are compared with target values, enabling closed-loop control of the rotary tiller.

A bolt loosening detection method based on the summation coefficient of the absolute spectrum ratio technique is proposed to address the prevalent issue of bolt loosening in mechanical connections. This proposed method involves initially collecting vibration and rotation speed signals of the motor bolt connection structure, acquiring the baseline spectrum curve of a healthy structure and the spectrum curves of non-healthy structures under different degrees of bolt looseness through chirp Fourier transform (CFT). Subsequently, the spectrum ratio curves between healthy and non-healthy structures are calculated for different degrees of bolt loosening, and then the Summation Coefficient of Absolute Spectrum Ratio (SCASR) is defined to indicate the looseness.
