NF-κB essential modulator (NEMO) is critically involved in the induction of interferons (IFNs) and pro-inflammatory cytokines. Hepatitis A virus (HAV) 3C protease was recently identified to cleave NEMO in non-hepatic cells. This study aimed at understanding efficiency and function of HAV 3C-mediated NEMO cleavage in hepatocytes.

Vancomycin, a glycopeptide antibiotic, is used in cases of drug-resistant bacterial infections, but unfortunately is associated with acute kidney injury (AKI). We here explore the protective potential of aprepitant against vancomycin-induced AKI. Vancomycin (500 mg/kg/i.

FSHD patients may benefit from inhibition therapies, and although several experimental strategies to reduce levels in skeletal muscle are being developed, no approved disease modifying therapies currently exist. We developed a CRISPR-Cas13b system that cleaves mRNA and reduces DUX4 protein level, protects cells from DUX4-mediated death, and reduces FSHD-associated biomarkers .

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a potentially fatal condition that often results in loss of motor and sensory functions, thereby significantly burdening global health initiatives. Urolithin A (UA), an intestinal microbial metabolite of ellagic acid, is known for its potent anti-inflammatory properties in chronic inflammation contexts. UA treatment in humans induces a molecular signature of improved mitochondrial and cellular health.

Background & Aims: Infectious complications determine the prognosis of cirrhosis patients. Their infection susceptibility relates to the development of immuneparesis, a complex interplay of different immunosuppressive cells and soluble factors. Mechanisms underlying the dynamics of immuneparesis of innate immunity remain inconclusive.
