Immediate Implant Placement in a Hypothyroid Geriatric Patient: Aesthetic Excellence, Secondary Stability, and Successful Outcome-A Case Report.

Plast Aesthet Nurs (Phila)

December 2024

Sowmya Srinivas, BDS, MDS, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Prosthodontics, JSS Dental College and Hospital, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mysore, Karnataka, India.

Placing an implant immediately into extraction sockets provides a distinct advantage over delayed placement, eliminating the need for a 4 to 6 months waiting period for bone formation. However, when patients present with hypothyroidism, the feasibility of immediate placement of dental implants becomes uncertain. This case involved a hypothyroid woman in her late 60s with loose lower anterior teeth.

Objective: Idiopathic generalized epilepsy (IGE) in adults comprise juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (JME), juvenile absence epilepsy (JAE), and epilepsy with generalized tonic-clonic seizures alone (EGTCS), which are defined by their seizure types but also cover a broad endophenotype of symptoms. Controversy exists on whether adult IGE is a group of distinct diseases or a clinical spectrum of one disease. Here, we used a deeply phenotyped cohort to test the hypothesis that IGE comprises three distinct clinical entities.

The objective of this randomized clinical trial was to assess whether early intervention with a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) following a disease alert generated by automated milk feeders could reduce diarrhea severity and improve performance in dairy calves. Seventy-one Holstein calves were enrolled on an automated milk feeder (recorded milk intake and drinking speed) at 3 d of age and received up to 15 L/d (150 g/L) of milk replacer until 35 d of age. An alert that was previously validated as diagnostically accurate to identify calves at risk for diarrhea was used using automated milk feeder data (≤60% rolling dividends in milk intake and/or drinking speed over 2 d).

Background: Long-term unobtrusive monitoring of breathing patterns can potentially give a more realistic insight into the respiratory health of people with asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease than brief tests performed in medical environments. However, it is uncertain whether users would be willing to wear these sensor garments long term.

Objective: Our objective was to explore whether users would wear ordinary looking knitted garments with unobtrusive knitted-in breathing sensors long term to monitor their lung health and under what conditions.

Background: The current murine models of peri-implant osseointegration failure are associated with wear particles. However, the current clinical osseointegration failure is not associated with wear particles. Here, we develop a murine model of osseointegration failure not associated with wear particles and validate it by comparing the cellular composition of interfacial tissues with human samples collected during total joint arthroplasty revision for aseptic loosening.
